If Heathrow uses it's emergency runway, the other two cannot be used. It crosses them.
So, what's the point of having it?
Isn't an emergency runway intended to be used when either one or the other are damaged, or when both others are in use, and an additional one is needed for an emergency landing, or something... am I missing something?

Finally landed at the new Airport atabout 4.15 p.m. after writing about it for the past 13 months.
It was a very long walk to the Immigration counters. Didnt see any of the Immigration officers smiling or greeting the arriving tourists.
Went down to the 1st Floor to take a meter taxi to Soi 5 Sukhumvit Road, paid 85 bahts toll along the way.
Finally arrive at Soi 5. The meter showed 185 bahts but the taxi driver demanded 400 bahts for the trip but eventually settled for 300 bahts.
I am puzzled by this.
Can someone tell me why I have to pay for more than what was shown on the meter ?

PussyLover 69 : When they do this to me I tell them to "FOOK OFF", throw them the exact price showed by meter and walk off. Did it 4 times allready, never a problem 
On the other hand is the driver is polite, bring me straight where I want to go and does not bother me asking me question on the way, he get 300 bahts...
Taxi drivers are not to "demand" anything more than the metered price!

What is puzzling about a Bangkok taxi driver trying to cheat a farang out of as much cash as possible?

You should have paid 235, there is the 50B airport surcharge.
They can smell the inexperienced.
The fact thet you were mug enough to hand over more doesn't suprise me.
I've never once been asked for more than the meter.

Heathrow can occassionally experience some very severe cross winds, which means that planes are unable to land on the parallel runways (09L/R and 27/R).
On the rare occasions this happens they land on the thrid runway. This runway though is not long to take off from for some planes so if this runway is in use, delays are guaranteed.
I only ever remember seeing it in use twice, but then again, I live in Thailand.
Have a look at LHR on Google Earth, you'll see the arrangement.

Happened again this afternoon - took a taxi from Pratunam Center to Soi 3 Sukhumvit Road. The meter showed 35 bahts but the taxi driver asked for 40 bahts. Since it was only 5 bahts more, paid him 40 bahts anyway and treated the 5 bahts as tip.
Looks like more and more taxi drivers are demanding more than the fare shown on the meter. This was the 2nd time that this happened to me.
