Unfortunately, it is true and there is nothing anti-American about that statement. It is no secret that Saddam was a pal of Reagan; at the very least, Ronnie had no qualms about arming him to fight Iran. What's more, the Taliban also owes its existence to the US who financed the militants to fight the "Red Menace" (which eventually crumbled and turned out to be a far lesser menace than the Islamists; at least, they didn't fly planes into buildings!). Two decades later, the wild dog bit the hand that fed it.
Now, the Western governments are shmoozing with M. Qaddafi, who was a backer of terrorism. This is justified by saying that he repented, but in reality, he is being forgiven because he is very cooperative with Western oil companies who are drilling in the area. IMO, that is a major insult to the Lockerbie victims and their relatives. [Mind you, it's both Europeans and Americans that are rubbing shoulders with Qaddafi, so you'll note my even hand.]
Also, Saudi Arabia is one of the USA's major allies in the War Against Terror - an absurd scenario because the House of Al Saud has also been sponsoring terrorism. There was an article in Forbes recently that has elaborated on all the juicy details, you can run a search on it if you like.
Then there are the Chechens. Without getting into the extremely complex Russia vs. Chechnia conflict, both the US and the UK have recently given asylum to a man who is wanted in Russia on terrorism charges (killing civilians, not troops) - a quintessential Islamic militant against which the US is currently waging war. So much for consistency!
So yes, Broken Leg is absolutely correct in his statement. There is nothing anti-American in this view; it's merely reality, regretful as it is.

I've heard a lot about this possible link, which confuses me -- as I do not see what the House of Saud is to gain by supporting terrorists whose main issues are the illegitimacy of the House of Saud, and efforts to remove the Sauds from power, to replace with their own Islamic rulers... In essence, the House of Saud would support its own termination by supporting terrorists.
yes, I can see how misguided individuals, or organisations would support terrorists, but I fail to see what the House of Saud would gain from such support?
