Why? They are criminals. You folks seem to be missing the whole point of 'punishment'.

Obviously in your part of the world prisons are not like semi hotels. he is taking the piss you of all people should understand sarcasm. The only positive thing is most people in these semi hotels deserve to be there, I cannot say that for many countries in the world. A civilisation may be judged on the way it treats its prisoners, although they are there to punish rehabilitation back into society is of utmost importance for both offender and society. Unless you lock everyone who steps out of line up forever. but thats easy and evidence of a backward civilisation. Or at least one run on ideals thought out a long time ago, i.e run by religion.Which amounts to the same.

Personally I reckon the Gitmo residents should all be issued TVs and forced to watch Oprah 24/7. Shades of Alex's "rehabilitation" in A Clockwork Orange come to mind here! And for those luck enouf to be in solitary they should be forced to wear headphones with Spear Britney's latest tune burnin' into the remains of their troubled brains.... Cheerio PS: Talk 'bout punishment....!

Ah, I see, you believe that rehabilitation back into society is a desirable thing.

I'm guessing he's American - it's one of the most common misspellings in the States to spell (badly) phonetically. (Not a judgment, just an observation)

Trying to make your point by giving a ludicrous exageration as an 'illustration' only further diminishes your point, and your credibility. *IF* I were to get a speeding ticket, I'd pay for it, and not try to weasel my way out of it... but I also understand that to avoid getting a speeding ticket, it is best not to speed. Or, to stay out of prison in Thailand, it is best not to deal in drugs, not to use drugs, and not to get into unecessary altercations (or, best of all, to be good friends with the local chief of police). Or, to stay out of gitmo, to not be a religious moron, and try to blow up infidels. YMMV

"Or, to stay out of gitmo, to not be a religious moron, and try to blow up infidels." Daffy, as I told you months ago, so leave the bottle alone as it eats at your memory, it only takes to ride a taxi to get into Gitmo. Out of 600 Gitmo residents 400 are there for no reason. Only because their neighbor goatf***er was interested in their goat, taxi, wife, house, daughter, ect, ect and ratted on him. So with the "victim" out of the way he could claim his prize and even get $5.000 from your taxmoney. If you want to say that is collateral damage and you don't mind. Then that is your opinion. But what you said was dead wrong. (P.s. I think they released 200 allready out of those 600.)
