Report from Bangkok Post dated Friday 2 February 2007 :-

Time shows another side of Thaksin
========================

Deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's latest interview with foreign press showed him in a different light -- not the guy who tried to attack the military that ousted him or the interim government it had installed, but the one who enjoys life after the coup.

In an interview with Time magazine's Feb 1 edition, Mr Thaksin said jokingly that he was forming a new party called "The Enjoy Life Party."

"Playing golf, traveling, relaxing, meeting friends," Mr Thaksin said. "Don't be too serious about life."

He said he had to thank the Council for National Security (CNS) for ousting him so he could retire. "After being ousted, I had a very good excuse to quit politics," he was quoted as saying.

He also said he has lost weight, not because he felt grievances, but because "I'm very relaxed."

The interview did not mention anything about when Mr Thaksin intended to return home. But he did not forget to remind the public that he could be of use to the country if he was to be back.

"If you want to have national reconciliation, it's like clapping hands," says Mr Thaksin. "If you try to clap with one hand, and take another hand far away, is it possible? You have to bring that hand back. I have quit politics, don't worry, but I want to help with reconciliation."
