Duck, Do not forget what the American Government did to its Japanese-American Citizens during WWII: Japanese-American Interment As pointed out in several places in the article, the primary motive was economic not security. Even at that the Japanese-American citizens did fight for the US in Europe: 422nd Regiment Minder, How long should pass before it is let go? How about right after the funerals. There would be far less genocide in the world if races, religions, and ethnic groups would forget the past and live for the day...

Quote: from DaffyDuck on 1:01 pm on Jan. 23, 2007 Germany - in World War II Cambodia - Killing Fields Vietnam - Khmer Rouge Turkey - Armenian Genocide China - Cultural Revolution and Great leap Forward USSR - Stalin's purges Italy - Mussolini's purges in Ethiopia and Yugoslavia USA - genocide of the Native Americans Australia - How's them aborigines? Plenty of pleasantries, and the Japanese actions rank pretty low.
Daffy GO check your history. The Japanese had kill 25-30 million asian including over 20 million chinese during WWII. If you read or know anything about the japanese atrocity during WWII, you will not be so casual as label their atrocity being "pretty low"

Austria - you can toss 'em into the mix with the Germans. Hitler was an Austrian, and after the 'Anschluss', Austria was pretty much 'Germany'. Plenty of Concentration camps in Austria. In terms of Austria proper, the planned genocide of the Serbs from Croatia should qualify Singapore, allegedly, supported Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge committed genocide. Sweden and Switzerland - while I'm sure something can be found if one were to dig deeper into the past, they are generally pretty boring countries - nothing exciting going on there - though it seems Sweden has some genocide history of their own within their own borders...

Well, then they would be in good company with the 40-60 milllion of his own people killed by Mao. This might place them in the upper tier of atrocious behavior. The point was that nearly every country has plenty of dirty laundry, though.

Not the best advice, considering what they say about those who forget the past The past shouldn't be entirely forgotten, just not held against a newer generation...

I think that everyone is missing the point here (aside from the fact that this is a thread on Travel Destinations). It is not what the country did in the past but what it may do now. Japan has a progressive global based economy that depends on the goodwill of other countries to stay afloat. A large portion of Japan's liquidity is invested in other countries making any moves that may destabilize the World Economy impractical. That is why they have moved so slowly and cautiously on the DPRK Nuke issue. Now if the pro-nationalist parties should take control; Japan could make moves to become a military power again. But before doing that Japan would have to insulate their economy against the Global Economic upheavals such a move would cause. Now before anyone starts yelling 'That’s what I am talking about!' please note that the same could be said of Germany, Russia, and France which all have growing pro-nationalist movements in their governments. Lest we forget -- Yes! Just as long as we are talking about our own counties' mistakes...

What a historian. You read a rather incomplete list of conflict and that becomes the basis of your theory? '1937-45: Japanese invasion of China (500,000) ' Think! The Nanjing massacre resulted in 200,000 to 300,000 Chinese deaths alone. Duck, your out of your depth. Stick to smaller intellectual ponds. (Like the history of California)
