That is correct. Thaksin did not say these words. Anyway, Thaksin is irrelevant to what is happening in Thailand now, even though those who support the current government continuously bring him out as their whipping boy every moment they can, so that no one will see what they have done to destroy Thailand. Question: what would the Yellow Shirts have done if the military had assassinated their leaders and moved on them with force to clear them from the airport?

LOL. One may wish for that, but you actually believing it just proves what many have pointed earlier: you really have no clue.

Now, speculating about something that didn't happen over a year and a half ago, that is one sure thing that is really irrelevant to what is happening in Thailand now.

Amazingly, the rationalisation of the Reds' conduct continues to ignore the mass of videographed evidence showing their leaders calling for their followers to burn Bangkok. Valetta says that at the height there were 300,000 and that had dwindled to 5000 towards the end, therefore the majority was not involved in the arson. But it is on record that the leaders had a month ago threatened the Thai government that they would call for the smashing of the BTS skytrain system and the burning of high-end shopping malls if the army was used to clear them. How on earth could this be equated with a democratic protest beats me. And sample Alan : "Speaking of killing people, one has to wonder why the Reds are setting fires and the other stuff. It appears to me it is because, unlike the Yellow Shirt demonstrations, the government decided to move against them with force and kill their leaders (like the Army General who supported the Reds that was shot and killed)." Remember, it is still not proved who really shot at the renegade general. Just as it is not proved who aimed pot shots at and killed the Thai soldiers during the first attempt on April 10. Or, who shot the 6 victims taking shelter in the declared safe zone of a temple. But, even if you assume that it was the Thai army that shot the renegade armyman, they were well within their rights and within their call of duty. The so-called leader was not peaceful. He was advising the Reds on waging war against their own country. He had been identified as the man who pressurised the moderate leaders to not accept the peace initiatives. He was the man who equipped the protesters with deadly weapons and ammunition (stolen from the army?), and who was advising them on tactics, using his own Thai army training to beat back the Thai army. This is a more apt instance of "the military trying to defend Thailand against terrorism" - an explanation you use to defend the killing of Thais during Thaksin's time. The army was only taking out one of their own who had turned into a deadly foe of the country that they have to defend. Again, if what you say is true the Reds should have gone on the rampage the moment the renegade army man was killed. That did not happen. Instead it was only when the moderate leaders capitulated before the Army assault on Wednesday that the frustrated extremists let fly. It strikes me that part of the reason the Reds lost their temper is that they saw through Thaksin's game at that point when the leaders asked them to go home. They had been brought there with promises of great reward if the government was brought down ; yet here were the very same leaders changing tune and asking them to go back home without the goal being accomplished and obviously without the promised rewards. Ergo the glitz and glamour symbols, that epitomised Thaksin himself (remember the poor Reds had just seen videos of their superman leader shopping at Louis Vuitton in Paris at the very moment that the Army was driving them away from Louis Vuitton in Bangkok. Since there is evidence (as recorded in other posts on this thread) that the 34 targets were "selected," it would appear that the few leaders who brazenly egged on their hordes to loot, burn, destroy, did so in order to make good their promise of rewards to their fooled followers while "punishing" those 34 representations of the elite that did not support them.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Friday 21 May 2010 :- All flights as usual at Suvarnabhumi ============================ All airlines using Suvarnabhumi airport have resumed flights and normal timetables, airport director Niran Theeranartsin said on Friday. Some airlines had cancelled flights over the past few days due to the continuing political turmoil. “There will be no problems for passengers who have to travel at night, despite the curfew. They can just show their air tickets and passports at security checkpoints,” Mr Niran said. Officials at Suvarnabhumi airport will also give copies of travel documents to passengers' relatives to show police at checkpoints on their way home, he added. The airport director confirmed that the violence between the troops and red-shirt protesters had reduced the number of passengers using the airport by 50 per cent, from an average 120,000 a day to only 60,000. The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation had yesterday extended to curfew in Bangkok and 23 other red-shirt provinces for three days to Saturday night. People must stay home between 9pm and 5am.

Report from Reuters dated Friday 21 May 2010 :- Thai Central: mall may be partly restored in 6 months ======================================== Thai fire-fighters douse the Central World shopping mall building that was set on fire by anti-government red shirt protesters in central Bangkok — Reuters picBANGKOK, May 21 — Thai department store operator Central Pattana PCL said today it might be able to restore the back of its flagship Bangkok mall in six months but the destroyed front housing the ZEN store would need longer. Its Central World mall, the second-biggest retail complex in Southeast Asia, suffered huge fire damage after an arson attack on Wednesday when troops disloged anti-government protesters from the surrounding area, which they had occupied since April 3. “We have Industrial All Risks insurance of 13 billion baht (RM1.4 billion) and another US$100 million for riot and terrorism,” Chief Financial Officer Naris Cheyklin told Reuters. “ZEN was badly hit but the back bit hasn't been much affected and can be renovated. The cost of rebuilding and renovating everything shouldn't reach 10 billion baht, within the insurance limits,” he told TV Channel 9. The company invested 26 billion baht (RM2.7 billion) to open the store in 2006, aiming to draw in 150,000 shoppers per day. There were about 5,000 people working there in at least 500 shops. ZEN has seven floors totalling 50,000 sq metres, topped by 13 floors of ZEN World with another 30,000 sq metres. It sold fashionable clothes and other goods to younger customers, tourists and affluent Thais. The whole mall was forced to close from April 3, when the “red shirt” anti-government protesters invaded the upmarket shopping area and set up a sprawling camp there. Many other malls and luxury hotels had to shut their doors. Central Pattana closed 12 of its 15 stores in Bangkok and the surrounding area yesterday because of the security situation, but said all of them would be open today except for those in the Silom and Chidlom areas affected by recent events. Its store in the northern city of Chiang Mai, where there was trouble on Wednesday, is also closed. Plans to delay the temporary closure of another flagship department store in the Ladprao area of Bangkok for renovation “could be an option” to help compensate for lost revenue, Naris said. He said the company had not cut jobs, and staff from affected stores had been transferred to other branches for now. Central Pattana has already said it expected to miss its revenue growth target of 14-15 per cent this year due to political unrest. “It is too soon to predict anything right now but we do have plans to support us and to make sure that growth will be affected as little as possible,” Naris said.

I suspect that the Red Shirts are right now thinking about the Yellow Shirt demonstrations of a few years ago and wondering why their demonstrations turned out different, which does make it relevant to what is happening today. After all, the Red Shirt demonstrations and illegal occupations of public and private facilities are pretty much based on the Yellow Shirt illegal occupations a couple of years ago. Where do you think they got the idea from? The outcome and violent ending is different, mainly because the government response is different.

When I hear propaganda like "[the quoted words] sound as if Thaksin had spoken them" then I just want to set the facts straight that what you quoted is strictly in your wet dreams and Thaksin did not say them. Not sure why you would object to anyone pointing out the truth.

Quote: from Valetta on 10:25 am on May 21, 2010 It would be a mistake to conclude that the arson attacks on as many as 300 buildings in central Bangkok were supported by all Red Shirt supporters,or even a majority of them. When the Red Shirt occupation was at its height some 300,000 supporters were in Bangkok.By the 18th May only about 5,000 remained in the area around Chit Lom.When it became clear to the Red Shirt leaders that an army attack was imminent they urged their supporters to go home, and informed them that their leaders intended to surrender themselves to the authorities.Consequently only a few hundred Red Shirt supporters remained when the army began its assault on the 19th May. Only some of these few hundred were responsible for the arson which followed the army assault.Up until then the Red Shirt protests were overwhelmingly peaceful.
Nice try, Valetta -- the burnings were directed, and organized, and well planned ahead. Arisman was well quoted in encouraging arson, when he spoke in his speeches of bringing glass bottles, and filling them with gasoline in Bangkok; of shouting encouragements of violence; After the initial Red Shirt leaders turned themselves in, it was well known that Central World was going to be targeted; You can be an apologizer all you want - Red Shirt leadership, MAIN red shirt leadership, planned and condoned the looting and rioting.
