i have a friend who was stung by stingray here L.A. described it as the most painful electric shock he ever experienced, must have been a horrible way to go for Irwin, he didn't show the respect ocean going creatures deserve, I thought he was obnoxious, but feel for the family

It's very sad that he has died, but yeah the odds were that it might happen someday.
I think he went poking his nose into animals businesses so many times that it's not surprising that one told him to "go away" in the only way it knows how.
But again, the loss of a good person in this world where there are too many f***ers whose intent is to cause pain and anguish to others is really sad. I saw him in the sari club in bali before the bombing and he was with his mates and filming crew. He wasn't a guy with a bad attitude from what I saw and he kept himself to himself - never had a jumped-up 'famous person' ego at all.
(But he did drop in om my mate once at Nusa Dua, which is his claim to fame!)

I would be the first person to stick up for the ray's, Steve got too close. I have caught many by rod/reel and when working on a deep sea trawl, the cod end come's up and the content's dumped on the deck. The first critter you search for and throw back to the sea are the ray's, nasty and adorable bit of gear they are, sort of like a TG lol.
This mindless and senseless act by f***en stupid people is not on. Let's hope one of the ray's get's in first with his barb.
