NO, Actually the majority of Soldiers where British, Australian's & Dutch. Only about 5% American deaths! Get your facts right, maybe been watching the Bridge on the River Kwai!

Thank you for the correction. Given that they were all Allied soldiers, I think the facts as I presented are substantially correct, even if I made that one mistake.

I don't think it really matters what nationality they were, since no humans (or even animals) should ever be treated in such a despicable and inhumane manner. It is obscene to compare that to a few cases of water-boarding.

Aren't you the one who makes that comparison (i.e. between the treatment of River Kwai POWs/slaves and water boarding by USA) in your post of 5:25a.m. on May 26, when you were answering Quackers' post?

Not sure what you mean by "compare"?

Quack suggested that Thailand has never mistreated prisoners and slaves, but they condoned the Japanese in their country who killed over 100,000 of them building the railway.

I said one cannot compare the water boarding at Gitmo and the 100,000+ who died like animals building the railway in Thailand and Burma. I meant that they are not equivalent.

I think the confusion over "one cannot compare..." is a matter of American English colloquialism. It generally means (in American English) that one cannot compare them as the same.

At least the Thais' are civilized & humane enough not to subject their prisoners to tortures like water boarding, something that the DEMOCRATIC USA specializes in.
Wow, you are sooooo out of touch and clueless when it comes to Thailand.

Look up Tak Bhai, when you have a chance.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 26 May 2010 :-

Malls plan recovery campaigns
========================

Shopping malls in the Ratchaprasong area hope to survive the post-riot period by luring back shoppers through a series of marketing strategies.

The Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association (RSTA) is now in talks with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand on jointly allocating a budget of 100 million baht to help revive the Ratchaprasong area.

"We need lots of campaigns to boost shopper confidence and the image of Ratchaprasong. The violence and riots, which set leading shopping malls like CentralWorld ablaze, have caused us a lot of damage and a recovery will take time,'' said Chai Srivikorn, the RSTA president.

A proposed walking street in Ratchaprasong would join established marketing campaigns such as the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, from June 15 to Aug 31; We Love Ratchaprasong; the Great Taste of Bangkok and Thai World Gourmet Food Festival, in October; and Bangkok Countdown on Dec 31.

"If the public participate in our campaigns, the picture of Thai hospitality and unity will encourage all shoppers both local and international to return to the Ratchaprasong area. A very good example is the Big Cleaning Day, which drew thousands of people to help clean up the area on Sunday,'' he said.

If democracy is to survive in Thailand, the losers at elections will have to accept their defeat, and allow the winners to govern unless and until they are either defeated at an election,or lose their majority in Parliament.

Those who do not like the Red Shirts rightly condemn their violence as antidemocratic, but they are reluctant to apply the same criticism to the recent military coup, justifying it on the grounds that the Thaksin regime was so corrupt that the military had no reasonable alternative.

To overthrow an elected government by force is surely the ultimate antidemocratic act.Unfortunately Thailand has suffered from frequent military coups, none of which has resulted in any significant improvement in government.

What any overthrow of government by violence undoubtedly does create is a culture that encourages the opponents of a government to believe they have the right to overthrow by force any government they do not like, rather than trying to persuade the voters to change the government at an election.
