A profound statement.

So typically Thai to think the farang are so stupid. They turn their capital into a warzone, kill and harm people by the thousands, burn many buildings, but 2 weeks later they are very happy to annonce they plan on "luring back shoppers through a series of marketing strategies" Madfrog

This could be targeted toward the Asian market.

You should see the whole bunch of people crowded around the Central World building taking pictures of the ruins. This could be a tourist attraction by itself. They should have a "fire tour" around Bangkok, where they get to see all the buildings that have been burnt down due to the riots.

Report from The Nation dated Thursday 27 May 2010 :- Engineers say Centre One can be repaired ================================= The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has downgraded the structural damage of Center One Plaza, set ablaze during the riots last Wednesday, to level 2 after the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) said the structure was moderately damaged and could be repaired. EIT deputy chief Thanes Veerasiri said initial assessment put the damage at level 1, as in beyond repair. However, further inspection Thursday showed that pillars, beams and the floor were in a fair condition even though some walls had been razed to the ground, he said. The owner of Center One is supposed to have the plaza cleared of debris, so tenants can remove salvageable goods before an indepth inspection can take place and the owner can submit an action plan to city authorities. However, the Dokya Bookstore nearby is unsalvageable and will be demolished, he added.

this midnight curfew isn't so bad. It certainly gets things moving along at an earlier time.... I stopped in at Gulliver's for a quick drink to get out of the heat on my way someplace last night at about 8pm. the place had quite a few nice looking (and nicely dressed) ladies, much more so that usual at this time. I ran into a few ladies I knew and chatted a bit, staying for about an hour, as I had a 9pm appt at Soi 18. As I was heading out, a couple of quite cute girls gave me a wave, so I went over just to be polite and say hi. 20 min later (appt totally blown off 555), these two went with me to BKK Beat, and we had fun until they shut down at 11PM when it was time for us to move the party to a more private venue. by 1:30 (instead of 3:30-4am) we were getting some shut eye.... the only downside was the competition for taxis at 11pm as everyplace closes at once was tough......

It sounds like a very mild curfew. I mean, places closing at the precise curfew time and people competing for taxis at that exact time doesn't strike me as very strict. Is it really so "soft" this curfew? I have been previously at a couple of locations that had serious curfews. Where if you were found out past the time, you could be shot without any questions or warnings. One was in Lima, Peru in the late 80s. It was a long standing curfew (permanent basis, not a few days) and as people got used to it, it made for the craziest driving and some terrible accidents in the last 15 minutes before the curfew.
