Red-shirt warns of coup in December 2010

The country is at risk of facing military coup as there are conditions that could lead to a military coup in December2010, Sombat Boonngamanong, core leader of Red Sunday group, warned on Saturday.
Mr Sombat pointed out that the Constitution Court is likely to give its ruling on the Democrat Party dissolution case on Monday and the court’s decision will lead to social conflict, no matter it goes for or against the ruling party.
In addition, the move to withdraw bail of Puea Thai list MP and co-leader of the red-shirt people group Jatuporn Prompan by the Department of Special Investigation would also create negative consequence, he added.
Moreover, planned mass rally against the endorsement of three reports emerging from meetings of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission, on Dec11, by the People’s Alliance for Democracy could turn violent, Mr Sombat said.
Due to these conditions, it is a possibility that there could be a coup next month, he said.

Reds to rally on Dec 10

The red shirts will on December 10 hold a rally at Democracy Monument coinciding with the 78th anniversary of the Constitution Day, their new leader Thida Thawornseth said on Wednesday.
"The rally will be held under the theme of Eight Months Phan Fa and 78 Years under Constitution," she said.
Thida said the rally was designed for the remembrance of red shirts killed in the May crackdown.
The activities will start f rom 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The highlights include the release of birds, the candle-lit ceremony and the reading of eulogy for dead victims.
Thida said the Dec 10 rally signifies the return of the red shirts in a concerted movement since the May crackdown. The red shirts plan to abide by the law in the face of emergency rule, she said.
In resuming their activites, the reds aim to accomplish four tasks - campaign for the release of jailed red leaders, assist victims of crackdown, demand justice and just enforcement of the law, and elevate the people's struggle to raise awareness and knowledge, she said.
The red movement has been revamped to upgrade its organisational structure, she added. Its new structure covers main divisions like academic, international affairs, legal, youth, religions, united front to form alliance with other ogranisations. In the long run, the movement will revive its political schools.

... hoo-boy, these guys are flirting with killing another tourist high season.
... they are fighting for political reform, so killing the high season is irrelevant to them... although, it would bring additional international visibility to bear on the Thai's interminably corrupt system of government and sick social system... but, at a significant economic cost... again.
... anything breaking ugly that gets the 30-second blurb in the international media might be all it takes... hope cool heads prevail, but a few undisciplined idiots is all it takes to re-man the rivetments... not like there is a shortage of those guys here, eh?
... should make for interesting viewing on December 11th.
