Unless they give voting rights to expats and tourists "we" don't stand a chance of being given a decent hearing. This matter was discussed earlier on another impulse, namely the hike in visa fees and the APEC-induced curbs last year. There seems to be a single minded objective in all these actions -- to "restore face" -- which translates to kicking the sex tourists, like it or not.
Let's look at it this way. To be sure, if what the doers are doing wins popular appreciation they will have their way. On the other hand, if resultant social unrest gets out of hand, well, they won't think of repeating their folly for another generation. As an inconsequential class that cannot influence government policy anyway, do "we" have an option, other than to face it and be grateful they are open at least until midnight ?
