Apples and oranges. The cause of the accident was some idiot who parked his SUV on the tracks in an attempt to commit suicide and changed his mind at the last minute. He has been charged with at least 10 counts of murder.
It is common procedure to push the trains from the rear in one direction and pull it back in the other direction. That had nothing to do with what caused the accident.

Are US train brakes still 'fail unsafe' as the were 20-odd years ago? (i.e. the hydraulics fail and the brakes are released, as opposed to trains more or less everywhere else that are 'fail safe', i.e. the hydraulics are used to release the brakes so if they fail the brakes stay on.)

I agree that the cause of the crash was the idiot in the SUV. I was just pointing out that the configuration of the trains was a contributing factor to the severity of the crash as per the chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. It may be common practice to do it this way but that doesnt mean its the safest way.
Glad to hear he has been charged with the murders. His stupidity and selfishness has ruined other peoples' lives.

I used to take Metrolink from Glendale to LA. I never rode in the front coach when it was cab-forward. I am a railfan (train enthusiast) and when, as a kid, I used to see the Chicago-Northwestern commuter trains doing the "push" with a coach-forward, I would wonder how it would fare ramming into a truck. The locomotives are solid steel and flow through anything like a hot knife through butter or my cock through a TG. However, the coaches are aluminium and air. Now we know what happens.
Let's get real with all the racist nonsense. Thais are the way they are. Big deal. We accept that. I can find plenty wrong with my own culture. I despite American bitches. Also, I am Jewish and I am utterly ashamed of the high rate of self-destructive Leftists and Liberals amongst my kindred.
Most of us love Thai culture and we must recognize and be honest about it's shortcummings just as we should about our own countries and cultures.

I do not like to argue Arramsey, unlike you so it seems, you bring it up at every opportunity.
I simply stated the Indian deal because I do not like India, forgive me for stating my opinion.
It is plain and simple that Thai's are half assed.
Is the country run by a half assed idiot ?
Is the education system half assed ?
Do Thais returning from overseas say the country is half assed ?
Was the prime ministers guarantee of subway safety half assed ?
Ever really concentrated on a Thai driving ? half assed ?
Blocking traffic in peak hour, any hour for officials half assed ?
Tell you what, give me your email and I will update you daily on half assed occurrences.
But at least they have the cutest girls on the planet.

On the one hand you say that you do not like to argue - BUT yet you revive an argument that has been dead for some days now !!!
- You have a right not to like India ( even though I am proud to be an Indian I have to agree that there are some pretty unlikeable things about my country ) - BUT what I pointed out to you were inconsistencies in your earlier argument. Like I said it sounded like you were arguing for the sake of argument !!
- You say that Thailand is run by a half-assed idiot ?
Can this not also be said of the U.S. ? At least the Thai P.M. has proven himself to be a very, very successful businessman.
- You ask "Is the Education system half-assed" ?
This could be - I haven't gone deep into the subject to comment - BUT in a similar vein a famous American ( Lee Iacoca ) has severely criticised the U.S. education system.
- You ask if the Thai P.M.'s guarantee of safety on the Sub-Way was half-assed or not ?
And what would you call the categorical statement by the U.S President and the British P.M.that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction ?
- And for all your other points there are more severe examples from other countries.
If you read my earlier posts you will see that I do not deny that there are some things that need improvement in Thailand - BUT my objection was to the generalisation that all Thais are half-assed because of one or two personal observations.

That's an interesting one. He certainly is a very successful businessman, but he has achieved this (and continues to do so) in a way totally alien to -- or at least totally illegal in -- the West. I suppose it's just a different set of skills. Given the way business is done here, then in his own terms he is a success. It would be interesting to see if he could make money in any other environment.
