200 million was a figure from The Chinese War Machine by Salamander books. The have published many fine military books. This figure was from 1991 and includes full mobilization of all reserves and militias. They could probably field 100k in a major war, but who cares? The PLA still conducts air, sea, and land manuevers based on 1980s Soviet doctrine. These tactics make for great massed targets. That is why the Creator and the USAF invented the MOAB bomb. Perfect use for the thing.

Interesting post.
China will soon become a major force to be dealt with.
The US is a compromised mega power - China is a growing super power. ( I say 15-20 years out from running the show)
The pendulum is swaying towards China- look back at history - there is always a Number 1 and everyone else.
There is tons of US Bashing - Europe/Asia you name the soil and the burning of US Flags exists there.
Believe it or not - I look forward to seeing China calling the shots - I am getting real tired of hearing all this shit about the US in every country I travel. I dont even bother arguing - have another shot of tequilla and see what the local pussy is like.
You think whinning exists now - would love to see how the rest of the world cow tows and dribbles when China is running the show - Hmm I wonder how they would deal with the issues in the middle east?
Ahhh yes - my friends in Europe who want to sell a few planes in exchange for the latest military technology - bash away on the hypocrtitical front.
Wonder how the rest of Asia feels about China's steriod growth - wonder how China will feel about increased competition from thier neighbors and how they will react to it 10- 20 years down the road.
Here's an idea - lets put the French in charge, thats a settling thought.

One thing I can almost assure you of, in that case - the major whiners of our times will be the first ones to complain and whine why the USA isn't doing enough to confront (insert evil here) - 'as usual', I might add!
On the other hand, I have a feeling that China (once it gets its act together) would not jump through a zillion hoops to resolve issues that threaten it. That is both good, and bad.

Not all far fetched and since I was a teen I have thought about a similiar scenario. The Reds will not win. A few more points to consider;
The PLA (People's Lib Army) is the largest army in the world. In a pinch, they can field 200million men (manowar, you probably know more than me on this so please correct me and I will not take it personally), but the PLA is a paper tiger and a breathless dragon. Their quality is terrible. More soldiers means alot of easy targets.
Taiwan, on the other hand, is the opposite. The Taiwanese military has a very close relationship with the US and Japanese military and an ever closer one with Israel (who unfortunately is a little too friendly with Red China too). Taiwan just a received four subs from Israel. They are not top-notch but better they are the German Vickers boats. Old, but better than the cheap knock-off Russian crap (Lobo-maybe you have more details on this).
Also, Japan will get in the fight. The Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force is the largest, most sophisticated, and best trained navy in Asia next to Red China. However, Red China's navy is of poor quality and not designed as an interational force like the JMSDF. The JMSDF is completely integrated with the US Navy. Sailors and officers from both Navies serve on each other's ships and share naval bases.
The Red's do what they do based on American leadership. If Billary becomes pres, which she will not, then Red China knows they can do what they want. Afterall, here sub and his asst. Al Goreleoni helped army the Reds.
They won't do anything w/ Dubya around. They already tried with him and realize that Dubya knows how to play Chinese Checkers. If someone like C. Rice or McCain becomes the next Pres, they will not move.
An American, Japanese, and Taiwanese factory closure and economic embargo would bring Red China's economy to a holt and create food shortages that would be beyond believe. Many will die, but who cares? If they can withstand the millions and millions of deaths perpetrated by their own govt. since 1949, why should the Red leaders care?
I hope the Waltons our looking at alternative mfg. sources.

So the only monkey wrench here if they don't even try to land but throw a few missiles into Taiwan to cause general havoc and panic, crash the StockMarket and create a flight of capital and people out of the island......that is why Taiwan had warned China that it does have missile capability to hit Shanghai and Hong Kong !! This caused a hugh panic in HK because damn they got nothing to hit back at anyone-------hilarious if the situation wasn't so damn stupid.......But if China actually want to land in Taiwan, then they must cross the Taiwan Strait. China is very foolish to threaten anyone at this stage of the game. First, they are just beginning to make some serious money but not yet have reached any kind of a modern standard of living for their average people, especially the poor inland provinces. Second, their air force and naval force are really not even paper tigers, they are paper merchants ! Third, their own claim to rule China is illegitimate at best, let alone their claims to Taiwan. Four, the recent rise of wealth of a few and poverty of the many have caused some real serious social issues in mainland. That being said, what keeps everyone up at nights is that this buillshit ( capitalist disguised as communist) regime with some real old senile military generals have the god damn NUCLEAR warheads at their finger tips !! It's N. Korea x 1000 times.......that's what is so scary about China.......one can only hope the internal tension will be so unsustainable that one day it will implode on its own and a real people's revolution will kick the reds out and a new era of democratic China can rise with Taiwan willingly and happily join the mainland as a genuine " One China". I just hope I live to see that day.

I must say that PRC makes great weapons. I have a Norino (North China Industries-owned my the PLA) MAK-94 which is just as good as a AK. I also have a Norinco SKS. Not as good as my Russian or Yugo, but a good trunk gun for the riots. The best is my $19.95 Shinzing Cal. 177 air rifle. Let's not forget everything on the shelves at Wal Mart. Gotta go, I have to do some shopping at Wal Mart.
