In the midst of your taking offense you missed my point: American media talks down to the rest of the world. Using the negative social indicators to embellish their slant on Thailand caused 64 million people to cringe. Was that insult neccessary? No.
Yes I did miss your point - (I shouldn't speed read if commenting) - it's a valid one - my bad!
I couldn't agree more on the overwhelmingly negative and distorted social agenda of the American press and on the undeserved cheap shots their feminazis take at Thailand and at TGs (both in the press and in their "missionary" work) as part of their agenda.
(BTW - I DIDN'T CHOOSE that personna, it was assigned.)

america's right wing media (esp. 'fox news') has capitalised on this case as an opportunity for sleazy reporting of thailand. the following is a post i've put on a website that keeps fox under observation and exposes their distortions of the truth ('there are lies, damn lies and bill o'reillies'!)
"At least this story gave o'reilly the chance to dig up a 15 year old piece (didn't he look like 'chandler' from friends?!) about bangkok. unfortunately (for bill) in the last 15 years this vile trade has moved on from bangkok to cambodia and vietnam. although it still exists in bangkok it is no longer as easy to buy a child as bill found it in 1991. a guest on john gibson's show (rudi bhakthan?) talked about young girls being kidnapped and sold to 'the painter bar' in washington square. 'the square' is an american elderly expat hangout and any 'girls' there tend to be over 40. (oh and no bar called 'painter'). However 1 mile away is an area known as 'soi dead artists' as the bars are named after painters. again this area caters to (japanese) tourists looking for more 'mature' company. if people like rudi are going to expose whats left of this trade couldn't they make the effort to get their facts straight. if not they are letting down those who are working to eradicate this sad business. so bill, if you're looking to buy children again (and expose them on tv without attempting to hide their faces!) you now know where not to look!!!"

The pervs in the US media are always eager to 'expose' the sex trade in Thailand by heartily participating in it any time they have the chance. I remember seeing their crews doing the rounds in Patpong during the May 1992 crisis. If their information seems somewhat out of date these days, it may be because they are getting their kicks closer to home. Atlanta, Georgia - the home of CNN - is said to be America's underage sex tourism hub. Pointing fingers at Thailand comes in handy for diverting attention from this.

Sex tourism thriving in Bible Belt

In a sleazy hotel room, "Brittany," then aged 16 and drugged into oblivion, waited for the men to arrive. Her pimps sent as many as 17 clients an evening through the door.
A "john" could even pre-book the pretty young blonde for $1,000 a night, sometimes flying in and then flying out from a nearby airport.
None of this happened in Bangkok or Costa Rica, places that have become synonymous with sex tourism and underage sex.
It took place in Atlanta, the buckle of the U.S. Bible Belt, where the world's busiest passenger airport provides a cheaper, more convenient and safer underage sex destination for men seeking girls as young as 10.
"Men fly in, are met by pimps, have sex with a 14-year-old for lunch, and get home in time for dinner with the family," said Sanford Jones, the chief juvenile judge of Fulton County, Georgia.
A new federal law passed in 2003 ensures that American sex tourists landing on foreign soil and hiring prostitutes under the age of 18 can get 30 years in prison.
But in Georgia, punishment for pimping or soliciting sex with a girl under 18 is only five to 20 years, according to Deborah Espy, the Deputy District Attorney of Fulton County.
"Men are coming to Atlanta to have sex with a child," said LaKendra Baker, project manager for the Center to End Adolescent Sexual Exploitation (CEASE).
Half of the street-level prostitutes in Atlanta are believed to be under 18, according to experts.
Others are booked through Internet sex sites and from social sites like Black Planet, where girls innocently post profiles, said Baker.
Just in March, police arrested a Canadian man meeting a 14-year-old girl he found through the Internet, said Cathey Steinberg, executive director of the Juvenile Justice Fund, which funds treatment for abused girls and prevention.
Another man drove from North Georgia, with a bag containing a teddy bear, a love note and condoms, snorting methamphetamine on the way.
He expected a 13-year-old girl, but instead found Heather Lackey, a corporal with the Peachtree City Police Department.
"People are stunned that Atlanta's the No. 1 sex center in the country," said Steinberg.
The FBI has identified 14 U.S. cities as centers for the sexual exploitation of children. In addition to Atlanta, they are Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.
RUNAWAYS AT MOST RISK
In all, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 underage girls are prostituted in the United States, according to a University of Pennsylvania study.
Most youths caught up in the sex trade are runaways, like Brittany, whose 19-year-old "rescuers" soon demanded a return on their investment.
"I didn't have any place to go. My mom hated me for what I was doing to the family," said Brittany, who did not want to be identified by her real name.
Up to 90 percent of runaways are believed to end up as prostitutes, with a third lured into prostitution within 48 hours. Some are sold into sexual slavery by their parents, according to a 2005 study by the Atlanta Women's Agenda.
Some get seduced by recruiters. Pimps use handsome young men and sometimes girls as fronts.
"A 16-year-old controlling a group of girls will not face the same penalties an adult would receive," said Patricia Crone, director of the Office of Juvenile Justice Demonstration Project.
Once snagged, the grooming process begins. Typically, the pimp's friends sleep with her, then come threats, beatings and gang rapes. Caresses and gifts, including drugs and alcohol, follow abuse, the Atlanta Women's Agenda study found.
Brittany said she was showered with fancy dinners, clothes and methamphetamine. But she also describes horror. "It made me feel dirty. It was demeaning," said Brittany.
The sex slaves are trafficked in and out of cities to supply sporting events, conventions or rap concerts.
During the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, one man kept boys and hosted sex parties nightly, said Baker of the group CEASE.
The pimps even held an annual "Player's Ball" in Atlanta in 2003, openly buying and selling women and naming a "Player of the Year," according to the Atlanta Women's Agenda study.
The risks are worth it. While there are few reliable statistics, child sexual exploitation is believed to be the world's third-biggest money maker for organized crime, said Stephanie Davis, policy adviser to Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin.
One reason for the demand is the false assumption that youths are disease-free.
On the contrary, with tissues not fully developed, they are more prone to lacerations. HIV infections among females aged 16 to 21 are 50 percent higher than for men, a 1998 study in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes reported.
Atlanta has won two new federal grants to establish units to fight the trafficking of underage sex slaves and to hire more undercover detectives, said Carole Morgan, director of the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy.
But the experts fear that may not be enough.
"It won't stop until people say, 'My city isn't safe for kids anymore,"' said Crone.
"This is a place where you can buy, sell or rent kids. It must be stopped."

the last time I was in bkk I got into a discussion with some expats about thai jails. I said that if I was ever in ANY danger of coming to the attention of the thai police I would have a story ready for them. I would confess to a high profile unsolved crime in a country to which I wished to be repatriated. I would get as much information about the crime as possible to convince the boys in brown that 'it was me wot done it gov'nor' and I would make sure I had an alibi to use AFTER I was extradited, hopefully in business class with my 'on expenses' escorts. the high profile crime would mean that if I was in thai police custody there would be western media attention which hopefully would keep me reasonably safe. the 'major' crime element would ensure quick extradition assuming the crime I was accused of in the kingdom wasn't of equal value. this would mean a few days at most in the other 'bangkok hilton'. the only thing this guy seems to have done differently to my plan is that his alibi has come forward before his 'get out of jail free' card was cashed and this has cast doubt on his 'confession' ( oh yes..and I would not have used a crime against a child as my banker...more like 'the great train robbery' or tampering with diana's brakes!!!!!)

My whole point when people start laying into Thailand and "What are YOU doing there?" are two-fold:
- "I find it interesting that people accusing others of pedophilia are generally the ones engaging in it - are you accusing me of pedophilia?" (ashen face and denials follow)
- "With regards to Thailand and what you insinuate, I'd like to point out that Thailand pursues, arrests, and heavily prosecutes these kind of crimes - hardly a haven for pedophilia. I would look towards the countries that neither prosecute nor condemn such atrocities - Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc..."
That usually shuts them up.
I'm now going to add the Bible Belt argument to it - great ammo.

Well, I've done eoungh RT's, and met enough members to render an informed opinion. Which is: If the BTForum is anything, it is a place where men with HEALTHY sexual appetities congregate.
Karr's was as UNHEALTHY as they come. He would not have felt anything close to comfortable associating with us. Nuff said!

Well Skip, this individual has not posted on btf for a long long time. This individual has a striking twin like resemblance to Karr. This guy which I met was a yank. This guy that I met a few years ago mind you, had a severe nervous disorder. This guy introduced himself under a different name. This guy told me he had been in hiding for the last 12 months and had basically not ventured outside of his apartment. This guy told me he had had several nervous breakdowns.
More than fits the description don't you think, very freaky member and very freaky Karr, very much same appearance. Freaky baby.
Then you have to think about my posts re this being deleted. Something to hide, also considering this freak had started an IT company here in Los with an equally freaky partner.

Yes your 110% correct as usual, there is no rampant child sex amongst the Thai population, never happens, the guilty are always found and prosecuted.
There are also no drug dealers, gambling dens or brothels in los as 'Thailand pursues, arrests, and heavily prosecutes these kind of crimes '
