I am sure you have imagined sometime what a man must feel to be so suicidal. The extreme depression, rage, hurt. In such a state of mind a man has lost his balance. Either it has been festering for long and he has calmly decided to end it all, or it is an impulsive decision. But in both cases, at the time when he carries out his act, do you think he really cares about not wanting to be conscious at the time of death ? Remember he has decided to kill himself, to inflict such harm on himself that it will end all his suffering. He sees that as a catharsis. And passion, force, hurt and pain form part of that cathartic thought process.
This is the reason why they go and do things that ordinary people – or let me say people that are nowhere near that wavelength – view with horror and incomprehension. Such as flying out the window or trying to stop the metro in its tracks or testing the razor blade on their wrists. In a few cases where the person does not want to remain conscious at the time of death, as you suggest, he / she would opt for methods perceived to be painless, like barbs or pesticides, but certainly not hanging. I cannot see hanging as a painless method of death. Nor do I see sense in a man who wants to remain unconscious at the time of death opting for hanging as his preferred method. It is contradictory. And opting for asphyxiation as a method to lose self-consciousness is even more incredible in a man who wants to escape the pain of hanging. Then why not an overdose of barbs ? No money ? How did he procure that length of rope then ? Your theory raises more questions than it provides answers.
Now your theory that the victim did not have access to a high rise is not credible. Despite security it is easy – more so for a farang -- to walk into any office building and take the elevator and, remembering that most buildings in Bangkok lack protective grills on the windows, there is not much chance of either being apprehended or failing. As for jumping on the tracks, it is the easiest thing to do, nobody could have stopped him so long as he was swift and decided.
Now look at the level of consciousness and agility and strength and knowhow a man would need to carry out a self-administered hanging on a bridge like the Rama 9 or 8. It is a demanding effort judging from the picture in your link. Are you suggesting that he climbed over such a high wall, draped a polybag over his head, rolled up the edge of the polybag over the noose, tested everything was ok, probably smiled with satisfaction, then waited to get woollyheaded before letting himself fall ? If your asphyxiation theory is true then I would think that it was neither a solo nor a suo effort.

What an interesting academic discussion - I'm guessing you don't really know much about the mental and emotional architecture of people that commit suicide - but that's okay, this makes for an interesting discussion.

As you pointed out, it's a theory, and I believe generally a valid one, based on the relatively little real information we have available.

This describes the bag as having come off at one point, and the way the head kept hanging there (as well as the arterial spray pattern - gruesome!) does indicate that the decapitation happened at the end of the rope.
Additionally, the rope is extremely thin, and best as I can make it out, instead of a noose, the victim tied a slip-knot -- which resulted in the loop tightening rapidly (severing his head), but also in apparently tightening on an holding on to whatever little flesh remained, which held the head suspended.
As for the plastic bag, it does appear to have had been barely the size of to fit the head in, meaning that if the asphyxiation theory holds, he was probably getting lightheaded within 30 seconds, and lost consciousness in less than a minute.

Thanks again for a clearer pic though I admit it does turn the stomach. This reminds me of two different news reports I read, one saying that the police had asked the media to publish clearer pics so the victim could be identified, then a few days later another saying that some busybody had attacked the media for publishing gory pics.
Since the two pics provided by you have been taken from different angles they seem to raise different queries. The first distant pic seems to portray the head hanging a long way from the side of the bridge while the second pic, assuming it is not a morphed image (I say this since pranksters are known to do this on the web), shows the head hanging close to the bridge - close enough for the blood to spray on it. If this is so I would assume that the head must have banged a few times on the wall during the oscillation. Given the structure of the bridge it seems to me an unlikely place for a victim to choose to self-kill. I am also wondering why he did not hang himself in his hotel room or choose the other methods I mentioned.
It does appear though as if the police and other investigating agencies have, like you, indeed relegated the 'not-suicide' possibility to an "academic discussion" category. Meantime if you do have insights on the "mental and emotional architecture of people that commit suicide" feel free to lay them out here so I could be better educated.

It was an insurance scam. He wanted to collect on his life insurance so he had to make it look like murder as life insurance policies don't pay out on suicides. He may need a bit of work on the collection part of it though...

No entirely true. I know of policies that do pay suicides. However, one condition is that the provision for suicide kicks in after a certain amount of years. This is so that no body takes the policy already thinking about it. The idea being that nobody plans a suicide 3 or 4 years ahead of time.

So basically, you want to screw someone over really well, just make sure you kill them before that provision kicks in (if there is one), and then be sure to make it look like a suicide.
The guy's dead, and their family gets screwed out of the money.
