Kaymanx, Pardon the poor English on my part, basically the cost of living is reduced due to lower wages (as you point out) since service providers and retailers must drop prices due to the lower spending power in the market. AE, I am looking at the larger picture, first Japan and Korea are not part of SEA and never will be. Also in the next 12 months recheck the economies in those countries, expect a 10 - 15 % downturn. Made in America, raised in Japan, Gaijin...

AE, One other thing, how much have price rose in the West in the last 25 years?? Anyway 25 years is not a good benchmark, 25 years ago Singapore was still a 'Dengue and Malaria infested backwater' (so says Malaysia). In regard to the current thread, at least Thailand will accept a passport that is not a high-tech, computer chip wonder that the USA is demanding the rest of the countries to provide. Also, per an earlier post on this thread, most of the Western countries get a short-term visa exempt entry. So we take a trip to Cambodia or Malaysia every once in a while. Though if they will increase visa extension fees, maybe they can offset it by increasing the exemption period to 6 Months, like the EU or HK.

So what about these new 1 million Baht visa's? Seems like a revamping of the visa system, one step at a time. Hope Thailand doesnt change it's 30 day visa when you show up process. Seems to me that I heard that there may be a renewal of only 6 times, then you have to be out of the country for 6 months rumor floating around. Anyone else go wind of this?

Whatever the amount, once converted to western currencies, what the Thais charge is low when compared to the cahrges levied by many countries. AE didnt you have a grandmother when growing up? You seem to be always chanting and praising yourself. How thanks to you this and this is going on etc. This may be the wrong audience for you to try to get some ego gratification.

From August the amount necessary to be deposited in a Thai bank for application for a year non-immigrant visa rises from 250,000 Baht to 400,000 Baht. There is an agenda going on here. Whether or nor it is anti-farang or pro-money I cannot say?

SEA = South East Asia Last I checked a Map Korea is as far north as Alaska and Tokyo is on the same parallel as Seattle. Having lived in Japan for most of my childhood I can tell you, no one I know would consider themselves part of SEA. Asia yes, SEA never!

A foreigner can move to America, learn English, learn the culture, watch football (American) and do high-fives with his friends when they score a touchdown and most people would consider him assimulated into the country and being an American. You could learn Thai, learn the culture and watch football (soccer) with the locals and you still will be considered a foreigner you will NEVER be considered a Thai. The best thing I read about this attitude is.. as long as you are a well-behaved person your presence will be tolerated. I do not think Thailand is anti-farang, but I think they will keep raising the entry price to come into the Kingdom until it starts affecting total toursit revenues. The PM being a former CEO is apply basic business tactics. We have a commodity (Thailand) for which there is demand, let's raise the price on the commodity until there is a reduction in demand. That way we can raise the coffers and not have to coat tail to the IMF in the future.
