Well, if Friday night in NEP was anything to go by, the 'crackdown' is still being subverted with typical Thai enthusiasm. In the GG bar I was in, one of the girls went into super-raunchy mode, sending herself up as they sometimes do. Soon she had her tits out and was massaging herself into supposed ecstasy. Occasionally, other girls would call out 'tamruat maa' (a policeman's coming) - at which point, the nutter would cover herself & flee in mock alarm to hide behind a pole at the far end of the stage.
In short, they're treating the crackdown like the joke it is. The only real question is whether this mildly inconvenient farce will last longer than last year's crackdown - or next year's. Ý Ý

Purachai takes first step in government drive to curb widespread sale of sexual services at 'entertainment' establishments
Deputy Prime Minister Purachai Piumsombun has asked the heads of three government agencies to compile a list of entertainment establishments that act as fronts for commercial sex.
Purachai ordered Interior Minister Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan and police commissioner General Sant Sarutanond to keep him informed of the situation after Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra asked him to sniff out the city's clandestine sex haunts, a source said.
On August 13, the Cabinet appointed Purachai head of a task force charged with monitoring the activities of massage parlours, traditional massage parlours and health spas.
Bowornsak Uwanno, the Cabinet secretary-general, brought the resolution to Purachai last Monday.
Purachai, a former interior minister, is best known for his social order crackdown that targeted underage drinking and drug use.
Thaksin was said to be keen on cracking down on illegal brothels after Chuwit Kamolvisit, a commercial sex tycoon, claimed that he paid police millions of baht in bribes to keep his six massage parlours in business.
The source said Purachai had already obtained information about massage parlours and other venues that operated as fronts for commercial sex.
Not all traditional massage places are fronts for sex services, but most modern massage parlours are known to offer sex services.
For around Bt1,500 a session, women at these massage parlours will perform sexual services for patrons.
A local Internet site ilikemassage.com lets massage parlour patrons exchange information about their favourite sex venues and masseuses.
One potential patron last week apparently joined the site and asked if there were any legitimate massage parlours where he could have a bath without the sex.
"At home," the reply said.
Deputy Interior Minister Pracha Maleennont, who is now in charge of the social order crackdown, said there was little he could do to control clandestine sex activities at entertainment venues because of the absence of legislation.
He said the relevant bill was under consideration by a joint House-Senate committee.
When was enacted, the bill would give police more power to act against such places, he said.
Pracha said among the first venues to be investigated would be those under the jurisdiction of the Lumpini police station that have sexually explicit shows for foreign tourists.

That last paragraph is a real doozey! I assume it was written by someone seeking economy of words.
One can infer that they are starting with Lumpini because of a history of lax enforcement. Otherwise tying "sexually explicit shows for foreign tourists" to the MP scene makes no sense (although it would make good headlines.)
I wonder specifically what this means for Annies and Darling. They've not gotten any press yet though that might be about to change.
Interesting is it not that one of the supposed hallmarks of the Thai p4p scene is discretion but these two virtually farang-only establishments are far more discrete than the neon blazing Ratchada MPs.
