Hindus and Muslims having been killing each other for hundreds of years in India and nearby territories. Probably some of the bloodiest fights in history have been between these two religions.

Hey Mr Alan; Which great nation are you from? Your general knowledge is incredible. I beg you to enlighten me on the "bloodiest " battles that Hindus and Muslims have been fighting in India for hundreds of years. From which tabloid do you get such profound wisdom? My history books on Asia/India/China never told me thse facts. Therefore I would be highly indebted to you if you could provide the source and the facts. How enlightening and refreshing. How appropriate that you chose to quote such great facts against ChinaSailor's comments. It tells everyone how well you fathom the situation. Luckily for all of us, FLAMING is not allowed on this forum. You may be tempted to reply to this post. Before doing that, please check your own credentials. I hope you are not from one of the following nations... # The only great nation that actually used an atomic bomb # The great nations with important leaders whose only claim-to-fame was their intention to conquer their neighbour's territories. # The nations which ravaged, killed, raped and plundered lesser nations in the name of religious crusades. # The great nation where (till very recently) everyone was carrying guns on their waists and popping-off their neighbours over a glass of whisky. # The nation that built Osama Bin Laden (I said built, not gave birth) - or Saddam Hussain # The nation who built a commonwealth. Common for their colonies and wealth for themselves. # The nation that arose from families of criminals and convicts, by trampling on the natives of the land. # The nation that taught a subject like slavery to the world - that too not based on strength, but on the coluor of skin. You are free to comment or flame to this post of mine. I will reply only if you mention your roots - and the source of your information (of hundreds of years). Otherwise, you do not deserve to be graced with a reply from me.

You've been reading very odd history books if you've never heard of the strife between Hindus and Muslims. Millions upon millions have died in sectarian fighting over the centuries. To cite an article from Hyperhistory http://www.hyperhistory.net/apwh/essays/cot/t3w30pakistanindia.htm Bloodshed in Kashmir is centuries old. The initial rift in Pakistan-Indian relations was created during the Islamic invasion in the 600s. Will Durant, author of The Story of Civilization, wrote, "...the Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history.” The Koran justifies the fanatical violence by Muslim's with, "Slay the infidels, wherever ye find them and prepare them for all kind of ambush"; and "Choose not thy friends among the infidels till they forsake their homes and the way of idolatry. If they return to paganism then take them whenever you find them and kill them." Obviously, if there is no god but Allah, then polytheistic Hinduism cannot be peacefully unified with such an aggressive and intolerant religion, despite Gandhi's dream of coexistence. British rule enforced an artificial peace that abruptly ended in August of 1947. If you want more details about the Hindu-Muslim conflict during the partition of India, over Kashmir or on hundreds of other occasions, simply do a Google search for "Hindu Muslim conflict history." Could we also include the great nation that clearly seems lacking in educating their children in history, as that seems to be where you are from...?

All "great" nations have their dirty laundries. Give me a nation that does not have blood of their neighbors on their hands and I will give you a "not great" nation. The "greater" the nation, the more blood on their hand.

Mr Alan's from Babylonia?!...uh, Ur? Egypt, maybe... Atlantis? Tell me when I'm right... I've enjoyed some of your posts Pyrro, but you've confused me. I only come from the nation whose citizens were responsible for discovering electricity and inventing gadgets who make all this internet stuff possible; and which has relatively decent public education, compared to nations not implied on your list. "that too not based on strength..." What do you mean? Like the slaveholders said... "Um, this one's got the right color but he's too strong, he shouldn't be a slave in my field." Now to address the subject of "the bloodiest battles in history." Well, this is a relative point. Depends on what one means? A massacre? The American Civil War was a fine theater for bloodiness due partly to improved rifles yet old tactics. But the slaughter at Isandlwana (hope I spelled that ok) must've been bad, though it's numbers of casualties can't match Gallipoli or, Jesus, the Somme, Verdun, and more nightmare spots. Before I get flamed, I will now due some research to compare the Hindu/Muslim battles but, very sadly, due to technology and tactics, they've got some strong competition. I don't know know that I hope they'd win such a gorey measuring or not. Or anyone for that matter.

Guys... Guys I guess I ruffled a few feathers too many. Therefore, here's my explanation: Muslim invasion, India's partitioning, some religious skirmishes... these are true of India's history. But these do not mean that Hindus and Mulsims have been fighting the bloodiest of battles for hundreds of years. Otherwise by now, India's population would have been crows and vultures only. There are more muslims in Secular India than in any other muslim nation in the world. Yet, the issue in India is not infighting between the Indian Muslims and the Hindus. Today, India faces a major problem of terrorism - mostly exported from across it's borders. Indian Muslim youth are being systematically misled into working against India's progress. A lot of effort is being put on the ground to reduce this and the governments are succeeding to a considerable extent. On the flip side are the pious western writers... making off-the-cuff remarks based on something they read somewhere - and relating to an issue they least understand. As one who knows the situation first hand and also reads the western print media, I can assure you that most of the reporting on India are selected to "sell" headlines. When I prepared the #ed list, my post was aimed at pointing out that no one has a halo over their head. They should not make profound comments on sensitive issues of another country, based on internet reports and biased reporting. I should not make statements about (say) Israel-Palestine issue by gazing at the morning newspaper - because newspapers and internet articles do not speak the whole truth. At best, they speak from the writer's perspective. The media will sell what gets them more money - not necessarily the truth. Anyone who has seen the coverage of the Iraq war on CNN and also on Al Jazeera will know what I am implying. All the nations which I put under my #ed list are the ones leading the world today. I never took any credit away from them. Take Europe for example... they are showing the world a new path. There are no demarcated borders there in spite of different countries. Such is the level of maturity that they have no apprehensions from their neighbours and are walking hand-in-hand to the path of economic progress. Let's not hyperbole an issue in another country by using superlatives. Sorry if my last post wasn't pleasant. I hope this one put matters in a better perspective. Seajohn - about Electricity and Internet: Everyone knows that. Still you preferred to write these achievements and express your resentment of my post (a post which may have been unpleasant to you). By the same logic, won't you give me the right to react to a blatantly ignorant post on an issue sensitive to me? Does that clear your confusion??
