It's another sad day in Thailand with this move. If it's true, then they should be bound by the same rules.... But one has to wonder if this was not arranged to save face in a feeble attempt to move forward.
I would expect the red shirts to win a new election, for reasons of current and historical fraud and vote buying. This will serve little purpose in fixing the current system.
I predict all those red short supporters will see (but never admit) a new govt to clear the way for Thaksin to waltz back in and take back much of his ill-gotten gains and pardon or commute his conviction.
As for Mr. Alans comment " voting fraud, esp. by the Democrats" is laughable at best. The Repugs have been engaged in voter suppression for decades. So those in glass houses should not throw stones. (unless you're a tea party support then, please by all means)

This is not always recognized by foreign observers of American Elections. When Obama was elected many EU leaders praised the maturation and the new enlightenment shown by the American Voter. However this November I believe that that perception will be proven false.
A significant number of women in the US vote for the candidate that they are most sexually attracted to. In the case of a male running against a female, the male must be very good looking to get the female vote. Don't the Europeans know that? Do they really think that Americans have changed their evil ways?
As you mentioned, after the physical attraction wears off, then reality strikes, and voters often change their minds. But it is a long time until the mid-term elections in November, and if the economy heats up, who knows what will happen?

Voter suppression? You mean like making sure people have legitimate id's so we know they are who they claim to be when they show up to vote, or are not convicted criminals (who are not eligible to vote) ? Is that what you mean by suppression?
I was referring to blatant fraud in counting the ballots, which occurs frequently in big cities where there are not enough Republican poll watchers, etc. Same is true for many Indian Reservations, especially in the very close 2002 South Dakota senate race.

News sources in Singapore are reporting that the Military Leadership is calling for the Parliament to be dissolved.
They are calling it a 'soft-coup' and indicate that the PMs days are numbered.
I wonder if Elvis had anything to do with this or is it the idea of the Privy Council...

There were also some reports yesterday that as soon as the EC framed the Democrat party for corruption giving rise to fears of a 5-year ban on Abhisit, the yellow shirts were threatening to occupy the streets on Sunday 18th April !
Round and round the rugged rock the ragged rascals ran. This could well turn out to be Thailand's newest tourist attraction : Monuments for Democracy at Rajaprasong, Phan Fa, maybe Suvarnabhumi again if the yellows decide to up the ante.... protesters for democracy staging gogo dancing at rally sites (see that youtube video link).... and international arms dealers heading to these perpetual rallies to sell their latest gear (buy now pay later when you come to power). And, of course, Toxin pioneering the adoption of the banana as the national fruit.
