To all USA Expats, We have been enjoying an exclusion of up to $80,000 USD per year if you live and work in a foreign country since 1954. However, as part of the new Senate tax plan this benefit is on the chopping block. I myself am pretty pissed off as I just moved to BKK last year and if all remembers, the foreign absentee ballot help GW Bush get into office. Now this is not GW Bush proposal, but the Republicans. A Democrat from the state of LA offered an ammedment to the plan to resind this tax, but it was defeated last night because it also contained a different plan on the dividend cut. According to popular press, this will not survive the debate between the Senate and House, as they think the House will not accept any new taxes. If it is allowed to remain in it will not have a start date of Jan 1, 2005. If GW Bush accepts this, I see dejvu, "Read my lips, No new taxes", like father, like son. The Republicans answer in the Senate is the expats benefit from the US Embassey abroad! Well thank you very much, but I rather have my tax break. Besides, I do not deal with too many US citzens at the embassey anyhow, mostly Thai nationals. Well there goes my MP money , but not until 2005 I will keep the bros posted on how this proceeds to the final tax bill.

Thaidup: Thanks for the information but hopefully the exclusion removal will be deleted during conference with the House. Another oxymoron: Senate Intelligence Committee

Yes, Expat Chuck, that is what I am hoping for to quote Senator Lott.. Also eliminated, over the objections of Sen. John Breaux, D-Louisiana, and Sen. Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, was a tax break for oil workers employed overseas, many of whom hail from Louisiana and Mississippi. Lott, the former Senate GOP leader, said he would "throw myself on the tracks" to get the tax break back when the conference committee meets to come up with a final bill. Well, I am right down there with Senator Lott on the the Railroad....Laying Thai's
