Teen condoms cause stir in Thailand Sat May 24, 1:02 AM ET BANGKOK (AFP) - A new brand of scented condoms aimed at teenagers is raising a stink in Thailand. The Sweet Teen condoms, which come in lime, cola and mixed fruit varieties and are being advertised with the slogan 'teen confidence', are a symbol of moral decay, a sociologist was quoted as saying Saturday. "Our society has decayed to the very core," Associate Professor Sompong Jitradab, a social scientist at Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University told The Nation newspaper. "When there's nothing we can do to stop teens from having sex, we produce condoms for them." A spokesman for manufacturer C.P. Consumer denied the condoms encouraged sex among teenagers in Thailand, where the legal age of consent is 15. "We don't mean to encourage teens to have more sex," the unnamed spokesman told the paper. "The demand is already there. We're helping to solve social problems." A Bangkok resident named as Sumet said the packaging of the condoms would appeal to teenagers. "I think teens who already use condoms might like to try these condoms because the label speaks to them directly," said the 20-year-old. The Nation said the condom market in Thailand was worth about 500 million baht (12 million dollars) last year.

LOL. Wonder how often K Sompong gets his rocks off with teenagers at his local MP. Sorry - obviously no ajarn would DREAM of such a thing. Of course, there was another university study which claimed (with a straight face) that average Thai guy loses his virginity at 29. So what's the problem?
