Below is from today's paper..

The Vatican has selected Thailand as its venue for the ``Sixth World Conference on the Pastoral Care of Tourism'' to be held next year. Some 200 bishops from around the world will participate in the conference, to be held in Ban Phu Wan, Sampran District of Nakhon Pathom, during July 5-8. The theme of the conference will be ``Tourism Aimed at Bringing Peoples Together.''

The conference is held every five years. Thailand is the second venue in Asia for such conference after it was held in Turkey last time, according to Mr Yuttasak Srisura, of the Bishop Conference of Thailand.

The conference is held by Pontificial Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, Vatican, to focus on tourism which can create good understanding among people around the world.

``The Church has always recognised the positive values of tourism and interpreted them in the light of the revelation. Nevertheless, the frequently negative consequences of tourism _ especially in developing countries has poor working conditions, sex tourism and environmental degradation, have been and continue to be a difficult challenge for many Christian communities.''

Anant Sirisant, advisor of the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), sees this as a great chance to convince Christians around the world about Thailand as a viable tourist destination.

As if the bishops do not have enough temptation. As a former Catholic, this institution makes me sick. It not the issue of a few priests making a mistake, but a bigger issue of the later cover-up by the higher people in charge. They are still pay millions for all the lawsuits in the USA and more to follow. I hope they bankrupt the institution. For them to come here on their high horse and preach about sex tourism, I say CLEAN UP YOUR OWN HOUSE

Not a catholic, but played one in High School!

My catholic friends are some of least religous people I know.  Going through the torture of the nuns and priests, soured them on organized religion.  My kind of people!  Catholicism has committed tons of horrendous things in the name of God.  Religion as is currently practiced by many faiths is not a good thing for mankind!
