Thanks to Mr. "Davis" himself for all this mess. ÝBringing the whole p4p scene into national spotlight and basically goading the PM to do something about the police corruption. ÝAll of which is to distract attention from his arrogant actions of the suk beer bars. ÝYou know it's pretty bad when the PM calls on the services of Purachai when he "canned" his ass not so long ago. ÝThis guy is scary indeed. ÝSay bye bye to sanook! Ý

The last quote by Mr. Davis is something indeed.  He probably ain't the sharpest tool in the shed because what Purachai wants isn't a "cleanup" of the p4p scene.  It's to erradicate it.

MASSAGE PARLOURS: Purachai set to impose order

Published on Aug 15, 2003

Owners cringe at thought of crackdown

It promises to be a Nightmare on Sex Street. Even though he has yet to swoop down on the so-called "men's paradises", with the familiar stern face that had teenage pub-goers cringing in 2001, Purachai Piumsombun's shadow now looms large over Phetburi Road following his new brief to clamp down on massage parlours.

"It's goodbye privacy and hello TV cameras," sighed Narutchai Amnuaysuk, a manager at Mona Lisa. "Who will want to come in here when there's a good possibility of facing an army of police and reporters?"

Few would argue with that grim prediction, especially given the fact that Purachai is emerging from a forced political exile that followed a fall-out with the prime minister. This dormant volcano may be ready to erupt. The massage parlours thrive on commercial sex, which is against the law but toward which the authorities have long turned a blind eye. There are concerns now that if Purachai resorts to extreme measures against prostitution, the industry will be brought to its knees.

"It's fine if he's to tackle the problems of closing-time or building-rules violations," said Anan Chamroenchokepanit, who owns a massage parlour on Ratchadaphisek Road. "But we are anxious to know whether this is the beginning of a campaign against sex services. Everyone knows what's going on behind massage parlour doors, and if this fact will be no longer tolerated, we will be in deep trouble."

When he was interior minister in 2001, Purachai went to great lengths to impose a "Social Order" that kept teenagers out of pubs and discos, and forced adults to drink beer from ice buckets after midnight while looking over their shoulders like frightened animals. He led frequent night patrols and transferred officials who failed to enforce the rules.

Purachai became a popular political figure, but was then was abruptly moved to the Justice Ministry. There he fought bitterly with the old guard and was all but abandoned by mentor Thaksin Shinawatra, who kicked him upstairs by naming him a deputy prime minister.

Political insiders said Thaksin brought Purachai out of oblivion for two main reasons: The prime minister wants to make amends and bring him back into the fold, and the current man in charge, Deputy Interior Minister Pracha Maleenont has some "old scars" to cover.

"I'd rather have Pracha on the job," a man who frequents massage parlours commented bluntly, on condition of anonymity.

Commercial-sex entrepreneurs expressed fears that Purachai's rigid principles would wreak havoc on the industry. For example, they said, most massage parlours are operating before and beyond allowed periods, and a crackdown will affect huge investments which were based on illegal operating hours.

"Welcome to the party," said controversial massage parlour tycoon Chuwit Kamolvisit, who has rocked the police force with charges that he had paid massive bribes to keep his business going. "He's the only man who can clean it up. He can visit my places any time because I have nothing to hide."

Didn't Andy Warhol say everybody will have fifteen minutes of fame in their lifetime ?

its thailand and its pretty basic
farangs are the evil devil who corrupt their society.

the thai politician (rich guy) who has multiple girls on the side a few who are underage is not doing anything wrong because nobody sees it.

same for the local guys who go to the backstreet house where the girls are basically prisoner ala cambodia.

u dont see it it dont happen.

I love the country but its run by a few who dont like farangs, hey mayby one day they have to pay their maid a decent wage !

Not to worry  Bro's * )  Remember ST political BS in BKK. Reshuffle the ol card deck of poli frauds.  Like Sinurl mentioned if ya don't see it, it never happened.  BG's know Pattaya is down the street and Phuket and ChangMi are a close distant, cause they can packe up outta BKK anytime and go work happily elsewhere.
Although many spots can get outta hand with partyers and crime and such; I think they are puttin a lid on the excessiveness.  The Soi 11 thing was corruption and money laundering into eliminating a compeating property with Nana, Cowboy, PatPong, MP's and other various BG's.  Thing is some were left out of the pay loop and someone tatletaled.  It will be over soon; but for now liimits are just 2 girls at a time for our orgies * )

Not to nit pick but Soi 11 is across the road. I believe you meant Soi 10. Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý
Brother Sinirl said it absolutely beautifully so all I will add is that yes, this latest round of crackdowns, like all the ones before, can be a pain, but one thing positive that has come from the gogo bar raids is that at least they're getting the underage girls out of places that they never should have been allowed to even enter, let alone work. Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý
To me that is well worth the inconvience of having to take a piss test. It's a shame they don't put in the same kind of effort in their own back yard. Maybe there'd be a few less girls chained to beds in LOS. Peace

I'm not trying to go off on a far tangent but I'd like to toss in a question to comment.

Was this crackdown inevitable, even without the "chuwit saga"?

Hmmn... ÝI thought about this and came to the conclusion, yeah it was inevitable, but it would'nt have been so severe. ÝWithout chuwit rustling all the political bushes, perhaps the drastic extreme of resurrecting Purachai could've been avoided. ÝThis whole new nitpicking of operating hours and building room capacity is sure messing up the MP sanook!

If there was no chuwit saga, sure there would've been a crackdown of sorts, but the usual non sanuk killing sort. It could've been just to show a bit of "effort" in lieu of the upcoming APEC meeting. ÝIMO, if chuwit keeps pushing and pissing more people off, it'll keep Purachai in the game and make alot of the crackdowns permanent like the change in closing times to 2am... Ý

Just speculation but, slippery slope theory would be initiated and Thailand's p4p will look more like Singapore's, Japan, and Korea's. ÝMeaning, a shitload of money to get some nookie... ÝI fear this due to the govt. not only targeting farang venues but thai p4p venues as well now. ÝAny gov movement with the rhetoric "social order" is pretty f_cking scary.
