Chalor Kocharat, director-general of the Department of Aviation, reportedly said that landing fees at Samui Airport of 90,000 baht (2,255 dollars) were too high compared to 10,000 baht charged at many other provincial airports.
Okay, when Bangkok Airways lands a full ATR-72 with 72 passengers, this works out to 1250 baht per head. The round trip ticket BKK-USM-BKK costs 7100 before adding in the airport tax for Samui or mandatory flight insurance.
That would mean that more than 1/6 of the ticket price is to pay for landing rights?
It sounds like a new airport could shave as much as 1000 baht off the cost of this flight.
