Browsing around the Net I found this thread
"Thailand Tells China To Get Screwed!

Unfortunately the link did not work ?

http://news.myway.com/top/article/id/380613|top|01-31-2004::06:36|reuters.html

However it did make me think about this BBC news report:-
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/asia_pac/04/taiwan_flashpoint/html/introduction.stm

And the newsgroup reply to the original:-
The reasons China would not swallow up Thailand are that (1) there is no
point - there is nothing to be gained in practical terms by doing so (China
has all the people, all the economy, and all the skills it needs, and
Thailand could contribute nothing to that), (2) China is trying very hard to
establish itself as a responsible player in the international arena, and to
gain international standing that way, and (3) Thailand is not a "Chinese"
country (like Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc), neither historically nor based on
current population.

I also think that Thailand's stance has nothing to do with "Thailand Tells
China To Get Screwed! LOL! Commie Bullies In Beijing" - they (the Thais)
simply show a less than responsible attitude towards the spread of the
current epidemic, and their attitude is a slap in the face of everyone in
the world who is concerned about it (which not only includes "Commie Bullies
in Beijing", but also its other Asian and Pacific neighbours in the first
instance, and the worldwide community after that).

This is an extract from the BBC article:-

Taiwan has one of Asia's few functioning democracies and one of its strongest economies. But for the island's 23 million people, the future is overshadowed by an unresolved dispute with China.

China sees the island as a breakaway province which should be reunified, by force if necessary. Hundreds of Chinese missiles now aim across the Taiwan Strait to bring home the point.

Both sides are used to dealing with this fraught relationship, and closer economic ties may eventually make conflict less likely. But until that happens, any flare-up over Taiwan would have much wider implications. Most importantly, it could quickly suck the US into conflict with China, because of US security assurances to Taiwan.

BBC News Online looks at the issues behind what some analysts see as one of the world's most dangerous flashpoints. Click on the links above to find out more.

Perhaps a connection can be made in the future with these two stories? Perhaps not?

Can anybody find the original Reuters article about Thailand telling China to get lost? That link above is going on about Chicken flu - or maybe that is the source of the conflict.

For whoever thought that one up it has to rate as the dumbest f*cking conspiracy theory anytime ever: - he/they hire a gunman to shoot him from the crowd, in the stomach, and oh, by the way, just don't make it a fatal shotl!!! Sheesh!!!

Never thought I'd see the day, but that even outdoes Hermie's many other AlienGWBWorldTakeOverConspiracies.

And there's Hermie shouting "Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's how it happened!"

"I see the hidden hand of the dreaded insidious Dr Fu Manchu - eh Moriarty ?"

He was probably instructed to be merciful." said the Doctor.

"Undoubtedly, but God Help the victim of Chinese mercy", said Nayland Smith.

Dr. Fu Manchu has some sort of plan to envelope the entire western world in his evil Chinese empire. He jumps from one improbable method of killing important British peers and scientists to another and seems to be unstoppable. His assistants are various, ranging from poisonous spiders and centipedes, to Malasian natives capable of super-human feats of running, knivesmanship and climbing to small monkeys.

OK in answer to your quick posed pun let me recant and retort please,
Think now, empathic thought, you are a very very driven person you want the best for your self and for your family, honour losing face all that stuff far east etc, nothing will stop you (I Know we all know people like this in our lives especial those of us that are in areas of work that have high powered people in them) you are about to become the most powerful person in your country, but its very close, veeerrry close, you know that if there is anything you can do to win you will do it. I mean body builders who take shed loads of pills that are killing them just to look good, you have people pilling it every day in clubs just to feel good, the list of things that go on that people do to them selves including drinking sh1t loads of Singha beer every night down NEP, but you are on the brink of being No1, your life time achievement. A shooting to let the people rally behind me, its a fail safe way of winning, and it has worked in the past loads of times. OK for the other things you brought up. I do not know this but I am sure there is a smart arse doctor that could answer this on the forum, being shot in the stomach is the safest place to be shot in the body and it takes hours and hours to die, ok, the pain, take something before hand to stop the pain when you get shot. Then we have, what if you miss, 2 things from this 1, You can shoot at a pin head from space and there is a 1 in 40,000,000.00 chance in missing. We are not talking about a man on the grassy hill shooting a president in the 1960’s here with an old smith and whesler shot gun. 2 He dose miss even thought the odds are very against it as these are highly trained professionals in there field doing this is there job and it has been practiced and practiced and they all know what is going to happen and what to do in all possibilities, but that small chance of a miss and it all goes wrong, it’s a chance, we are talking about a driven person here that will always take risks to get what they want, there are so many areas that you can bet shot in and survive if there is a miss and it’s a bad hit with today’s high end medical care its still cool, we are talking about the most powerful persons in one of the biggest and most powerful countries in the world, If I was driven to that extent to get what I want, I would do it that’s for sure. Would you stick a pin in your hand for $2000, I would, so would you take a bullet and know that you stand a very very very good chance of surviving to be the most powerful person in your country, it’s a tuff one but its worth thinking about. Thanks for all the positive comments I read on this forum all the time its so warming, peace to all. Did you know that they thought the world was flat at one point in time. What we learn about over time HA.

Welcome to Club Nicolo Machiavelli !

No enterprise is more likely to succeed
than one concealed from the enemy
until it is ripe for execution.
—Machiavelli from The Art of War

The Master Fool The Conspiracy of Machiavelli's Mandragola
MICHAEL PALMER and JAMES F. PONTUSO

Machiavelli is the master of conspiracy. He is both master theoretician and master practitioner of conspiracy. He may have been the most ambitious conspirator in the history of political philosophy; if, that is, one assumes that modern political thought emerged around the turn of the sixteenth century as a revolutionary reaction against ancient thought in both its pagan and Christianized forms, and that Machiavelli was the architect of that revolution. Machiavelli announces the revolutionary nature of his teaching in both The Prince (ch. 15) and Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livius (bk. 1, intro.), the two books that contain or comprise, by his own confession, everything he knows (Prince, Ded. Letter; Discourses, Ded. Letter).

It is certainly true that the theme of conspiracy plays a paramount role in Machiavelli's political thought. The longest chapters in The Prince and Discourses deal with conspiracies. Chapter 19 of The Prince, "Of Avoiding Contempt and Hatred," discusses, among other things, how the Roman emperors executed and avoided conspiracies. It is here that we learn that the "bad" emperor, Severus, is the one who above all others combined the ferocity of a lion and the cleverness of a fox to gain and then secure sole possession of the empire and subsequently to frustrate every attempt to take it away from him. Severus is, indeed, the hero of The Prince ( Strauss and Cropsey 1987, 302; compare the original reading of Machiavelli's treatment of Cesare Borgia, often called the hero of The Prince, in Scott and Sullivan 1994, 887-900). In Discourses, "On Conspiracies" (3.6) provides an exhaustive analysis of no less than sixty-five conspiracies from ancient and modern times: how they were executed, how they succeeded, how they failed, how they could have succeeded, and what lessons aspiring conspirators should learn from them. Perhaps the most memorable passages in Florentine Histories are those dealing with the conspiracy against the Sforza, reported at the end of book 7, and the Pazzi conspiracy against the Medici, recounted in book 8, both of which were implemented and involved executions, surely to Machiavelli's delight, in a church. Indeed, in the midst of relating these conspiracies, in the opening sentence of book 8 of Florentine Histories, Machiavelli writes, "Since the beginning of this eighth book lies in the middle of two conspiracies--one already narrated and taking place in Milan, the other yet to be narrated and occurring in Florence--it would appear the proper thing, if we want to follow our custom, to reason on the qualities of conspiracies and their importance. This would be done willingly if I had not spoken of it in another place or if it were a matter that could be passed over with brevity" ( Florentine Histories, 317). "Another place" where the qualities of conspiracies and their importance are discussed and (certainly not "passed over with brevity") is Discourses 3.6 (also The Prince, ch. 19). And, of course, Mandragola is a comedy about conspiracies. Its plot, much of which accords with Machiavelli's lessons about conspiracies in The Prince and Discourses, is nothing but a series of interrelated conspiracies. It should not be surprising, in light of Machiavelli's conspiratorial lessons, that Mandragola has elicited a variety of interpretations, for we submit that Mandragola is not only a play about conspiracies; it is a play that is, itself, a conspiracy.
