Very scary stuff indeed for those living here in LOS without a work permit. However, the terms 'tourist visa' (TR) is used for visas obtained at embassies abroad (60 days). The visas obtained at the border are actually called transit visas. Furthermore, there are no such things as 'back-to-back' visas, because there is always another visa 'in between'. Even if 'back-to-back' is considered returning the same day, will it be allowed to stay in another country (Malaysia/Cambodia) for a day and then return. Or does it have to be a number of days? How many? To the discretion of the officer or arranged by law? Let's see how this turns out....

Interesting quote from the Thai immigration :- "To get deported from Thailand your offence must be very serious. It’s mostly for people doing serious crimes like overstaying long term, shooting their neighbours," Glad they consider both equally deportable!!!!

Hmmm interesting stuff.... No back to back visas - cant really say I blame them. But it is perhaps just a ploy to finally sell a few Thailand Elite Cards.

A multiple entry non-immigrant class O or class B will suffice. This crackdown is long overdue. It's going to be fun to watch the cockroaches scurry as the lights come on. The only awkwardness is in all this is if you're not of retirement age but still have the means to support yourself without working illegally. Seems a bit pointless to have to jump through all the hoops to start a business just to break even and keep your B visa.

I can report that I made my normal monthly visa run yesterday at Hat Lek/Cham Leam (by way of Trat) and it was business as usual, and I've got "back to back" entry/exits since October, 2002...so the "crackdown," if it's going to happen, certainly hasn't started yet. vox

Vox, Thanks for the update. Anyway, a friend reported that last Monday in Poi Pet he was asked the following questions: Questions like: 'What do you do in Thailand' 'Where does your money come from' 'Proof of your precise address' He had a phone bill (accidently) in his pocket so he was allowed in. Tildestey, No, you're not applying for a back to back visa. Only applies to people who stay permanently in Thailand and get a new visa time after time. So it doesn't apply if to you.
