Thailand has so far insisted that the energy crisis will not hit the country's economic growth, forecast to be 7% this year.
Nonetheless, the government has decided to take action to cut the oil spending bill, following one estimate that the country will have to spend 40% more on importing oil than it did last year.
From next week, department stores will close at 8pm, gas stations will close at midnight and billboards will no longer be lit after 10pm. This should save the country 3bn baht ($72m).

I read that myself, and it doesn't appear to be a bad policy.
Of course, it makes you wonder what the fallout for the p4p scene will be on that. Remember, Billboards is a flexible term, and could mean illumination above bars... Also, gas stations closing at midnight, so the one across from Nana will be dark at midnight.
No conspiracy, but I wonder what unexpected repercussions will come out of this - then again, saving energy costs in general is a good idea.

One Club owner told me that the recent crackdown on closing times is actually linked to the Government's desire to save energy costs rather then the Governor election.
If that is the case it is clearly bad news.... no reprieve at the end of the month...

This is the effect of many generations where lack of education in energy consumption and saving has been the model.....as much in Europe and US we push our efforts to be "enviromental friendly" as much in Thailand (and other similar Countries) they actually don't give a sh_t about it.....
