China unveils controversial law - which would allow it to use force against Taiwan.
The relevant phrase ="gives the [Chinese] military a blank cheque to invade Taiwan" and "exposed the Chinese communists' attempt to use force to annex Taiwan and to be a regional power."
Any problems with Taiwan and America will be seeking to base large forces in Thailand as part of the stand-off ?
I just hope that my strategic over-imagination has taken over as usual?

This is nothing new. More political manouvering. The US is commited to helping Taiwan if China invade, even though Taiwan is not recognised internationally
However if this were to ever happen the reality would obviously be very scary.

I wondered whether the law would be used as a pretext to action ?
As you say "politcal manoeuvring" but I have read too much from authors like Frederik Forsyth etc. I would have said Tom Clancy but I found after 'Red Storm Rising' he books became turgid.
However -'Pacific Nightmare' by Simon Winchester (ISBN: 1559721367) is worth a look.
Ever seen the film 'The Yangtse Incident' ?
Too much imagination ? I need to get out more !

IMO:
"IF" China invades Taiwan, the U.S will puff up it's chest, but no action will be taken. They are spread to thin with the middle east and possibly North Korean on the for front.
And, China is a super power that I think the U.S would not want to tangle with. I should say, no super power wants to dance with one another.
