Readers in a US travel magazine recently voted in a poll to name the best cities in the world. The results are interesting: 1. Sydney 2. Bangkok 3. Rome 4. Florence 5. Chiang Mai 6. New York City 7. Istanbul 8. Cape Town 9. Oaxaca, Mexico 10. San Francisco Now, combine that with the 2005 results of Mercer's annual survey of the world's 150 most expensive cities and you'll see we have it pretty good here. Bangkok ranked something like 135th. CM wasnt covered.

If it was a US Travel magazine, the ranking was the best cities to travel to, not the most livable cities. NY and SF never make the list of most livable US cities, but obviously they are popular vacation destinations.

I have to vote for Bangkok. I love San Francisco and live very near it but BKK is hard to beat. No offense but how did Sydney make #1? I am guessing that not all participants had been to the everyone of your top ten. Also while I am very fond of Chiang Mai (it being Thai and all), I think it made the list because that is where a lot of families from the US head when in LOS and often no where else. As for NYC don't want to seem unpatriotic or anything but WTF? Nice town to be sure but hard to describe as fun or easy to get around in. additinally while people there are very nice it just doesn't move me. Having said that people all around me seem to want to go see it. Must be like some sort of herd mentality thing or something...
