These 'Muslim Insurgents' justly deserve the description of 'bandits', considering they truly show their courage by killing, as of latest, a teacher, and a plantation worker.
Not to mention those gnarly monks -- 'cause, you know, those monks can get violent against Muslims, right?

Talks of "It's all Thaksin's fault" by 'Muslim leaders' don't help the situation, and in the end, Thaksin's government will most likely solve the problem with a shitload of violence, hopefully in a clean sweep, instead of a long drawn out elimination of the troublemakers. Quite typical of the Muslim, in this region, I guess, to end up on the losing end of that stick.

Toxic is merely another leader (an ultra-nationalistic / neo-fascist cop this time around) of the centrally governed budhist unity TH state, who will fail to win the harts and minds of the independence seeking Malay muslim people in south TH. As has been the case for about 200 years now.
It might be a matter of only months for BKK to start burning. I would'nt even exclude the possibility that Toxin turning desperate would -- as a provocative setup -- target some foreign/international BKK community with a nice nationality mix of victims to subsequently justify more state violence against the people of the deep south of TH. Will then follow a "clean sweep" of that troubled region ? I doubt it. The influx of freedom fighters from South MY and even ID (Aceh region more in particular) will continue.

My guess is they will target Phuket before they get to Bangkok - also, doing something in BKK will actually take some serious work, and planning, none of which I have seen from these sheepherders so far... Can't conveniently slit the throat of innocent monks, or innocent hard-working simple folks in BKK... and going all 'suicide bomber' seems to take more guts than these fools have.
Either way, at one point, someone (most likely outsourced labor) will target something in BKK -- and my personal theory is that Thaksin is not necessarily waiting for this, but if it does happen, he will exploit the resultant rage of the Thai people to the very detriment of all the people in the Southern provinces...
Either way, any such act will bring with it a medium-term tourism backlash (i.e. fear will cause another slump in tourism), hurt the local economy and hard workers, and will drive prices down majorly, as well as further push the Baht down -- as a result, you may end up with a LOT more Thai people angry at all muslims, with a resultant backlash against Muslims in BKK... in short, it won't be pretty.

Remember Daffy you know nothing and your guess doesn't do you much good if you've just been blown up. As sir bareback points out there are significant terroist groups in south east asia. They carried out Bali (which was suppoedly planned by JI in thailand) and a few years ago in Jakarta the frequency of bombings peeked at about 3 per week. The Thais might not be at the level to mount attacks on Bangkok or other tourist destinations at the moment but if things continue it would be a very nieve to believe that these "sheepherders" are incapable.
