Ya, Bangla road in Phuket got shutdown last night because of that. Mass exodus of ppl fleeing up into the mountains. Moved to a bar at a junction of a road leading up a hill and watched everyone starting to come back down around 1:15am. Nutty to say the least.

Elephants !
The Chinese use animals to predict earthquakes.
The elephants in Phuket knew the wave was coming and tugged at their foot chains to get away.
Perhaps they should have especially trained mahouts and elephants for a 'Tsunami Watch'. Elephant's feet are incredibly sensitive. Wonderful animals !

They are calling a Tsunami alert for every drop of rain that falls for the foreseeable future... Especially after the manner in which they screwed up with the actual Tsunami.
Same same in the US - had an earthquake recently, and Tsunami warnings (downgraded to Tsunami Alerts) all over the place.
Paranoia.
