As I was leavin' the other day I saw this at passport control: From 15th march 2006 no charge for one day overstay. For two days the charge is Baht 1000 and for each additional day it's Baht 500. Cheerio PS: You'll all be pleased (no doubt) to learn that I hadn't overstayed!

I put this on the board under 'Living here'...visa run on the 18 Feb 06. "Today I did the usual visa run with Jack Golf BKK to Ban Laem (Cambodian border). Prior to arriving at Ban Laem, I was talking with a Canadian bloke who said that he did a visa run last month on a bus out of Phuket. On the way Police stopped the bus and removed the overstayers and transported them to BKK where they would be processed and allowed to go to the border and do the visa run. More expense yes, and maybe if your overstay is more than a week or so, they might take you to the International Airport, bye bye. We get to Ban Laem and no problems. Back on the bus and heading to BKK and the tour guide tells the story. " Police in Poi Pet have begun to stop buses prior to the border and remove overstayers and take them back to BKK for processing. Do not overstay, even for 1 day, you may find yourself way outside the law and could become very difficult for you. Eventually they will head to Ban Laem". No doubt when more rescources become available, this could become very tricky. Also cracking down on cig's and spirits, 1 carton cig's and 1 litre of spirits per person. Leave it up to you. I know nothing of bandwidth etc, but maybe BK or Dr Love could put a large sign somewhere, so it grabs everbodies attention when they log in or whatever. Barrafish." End quote. Another timely warning from brother bro. There does not seem to be any pattern to this, so just be aware folks. BTW, I have seen a few people at the border having to obtain a short loan from the tour company because they did not have enough cash at 200b per day. One person had to borrow a couple of thousand. No problems with the tour group, they had enough cash, but when the new law comes in @ 1K then 500b for each additional day, well they may get jack of it and say NO. They have to hang around when they return to BKK for the inconsiderate customer to return to the hotel or whatever, grab cash, grab card and return to the waiting tour company. I would never be able to walk from the Cambo border to BKK, bloody long way. Hey brother bro, I am pleased you did not overstay, did not want you around here any longer anyhow. Oh well, back to the decorating on the push bike. 100klms a day on a pushy. Only joking mate, hopefully catch up on your return. Take care. Barrafish.

The airport rule was always like this... (except for the lower amount). Be aware though that this rule doesn't apply at the land borders. First day is THB 500.
