Has not Taksin just spent a few days in London with another PM living on borrowed time???
May be he saw in a true democratic country just how hot things can get for a PM when nobody wants him…

Thai PM tired, wants to quit
Thaksin says he is not ‘addicted’ to power, thinking of resigning after November polls
BANGKOK — Thailand’s embattled Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said in an interview broadcast yesterday that he was tired and considering stepping aside after general elections to be held in November this year. “Sometimes I wonder if it is better for me not to be prime minister,” Mr Thaksin said in the show. “I am thinking that maybe it is better to step aside.” He added he was “not addicted” to power and remained undecided about his political future.
Mr Thaksin was interviewed last week by Mr Chakaphan Yomchinda of the ruling Thai Rak Thai (TRT) Party for a three-part television programme.
In the show he voiced his regrets over losing friends from working too much, the Nation said.
He also talked about the upcoming elections and revealed several TRT members would not be on the candidates list as they have changed.
And to the next prime minister, Mr Thaksin was quoted as saying: “He should heed this. Thai society needs to have socialising. A senior person needs to share some time with the junior ones and they will be happy and stand on ourside.”
The Election Commission yesterday said the elections will be held either on Nov 19 or 26.
The elections have been scheduled for Oct 15 but there are widespread doubts they can be organized by then.
The opposition Democrat Party said it was sceptical of Mr Thaksin’s statements and it was not paying attention to his “political manoeuvres”. "The Democrat Party doesn’t care anymore what Thaksin says; he is not someone who keeps his word,” said Mr Suthep Thueksuban, secretary-general of the opposition party.
“We are focusing on preparing our party for the next election.” Meanwhile, the long-running
political battle between Mr Thaksin and his opponents continued to hit consumers’ confidence. According to a survey conducted by The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thai consumers’ confidence fell to 79.1 in August due mainly to political uncertainty and high oil prices. This was the eighth consecutive drop after five months of gains and the 27th consecutive month that the index has been below 100.

Nice, but weak, political maneuver to keep the elections on track, and then, after the elections "Since the Thai people have shown so much confidence in me, it would be be bad if I stepped down, so I accept the mandate of the people and sstay for one more term as PM..." or something to that effect.
