Some news from the Offbeat section of CNN online:

Suvarnabhumi Airport

USD 10 Million for 200 toilets? That is USD 50K per toilet. Are the fixtures gold plated?

Looks to me that the new government is a case of a different dog with the same fleas...

Well think about it. Yes toilets are quite cheap actually, including the doors, booths, sinks, mirrors, taps etc.

What is expensive though, is the big f***ng holes they have to dig under every toilet to get rid of what us travelers put in the damn toilets.

Yep!

I doubt that is 200 toilet rooms but 200 toilet stools.

Now with the caviet that I have not seen the plans, if they put 4 toilets in each room that would be 50 rooms at USD 200,000 per room.

Naw, even with the holes and piping the numbers still do not work out for me...

Who is making the prices? I built a house 3 rooms with kitchen and 10 outside rooms for dogs with iron dors plus fence all around for 700 000 THB and they make this like millions for toilets. I like the chairs what was it now 20 000 THB per plastic chair so cheap !

then I would suggest your knowledge of design and construction costs is limited....actually, I'd go so far as to say you know nothing.....

Yurune,

Heck, I did not know that Thailand is so expensive.

That is about 320,000 SGD per toilet room. Last year I had a 100% tear out and rebuild of a 2 story 8 room Terrace House (and this house has three toilets in it) in Singapore. Including design and construction and it cost me SGD 360,000.

As I said earlier, the numbers do not work for me...

More importantly can I quote on the job???
At those prices I could fly in Aussie staff let them have 6 months fully paid holidays after the job and still retire wealthy. AHHHHH is it a TAXSIN company that won the contract???? Final pay-off?

Cheers
Mel

equating costs on a domestic project, with costs on an international airport really is like comparing apples and oranges.....

Did you employ top range architects, QS's, design consultants, construction consultants, contractors, project managers....?

Jobs that cost a few thousand dollars end up costing ridiculous money.....it may be ridiculous but it's fact....

out of interest how many airports have you been involved in building or refurbing?

Me???? Only one, the new HCMC airport. I supplied the condom vending machines at a mere $100,000 each. Remember I had to dig holes for the power supply,,,,LOL

Check out the toilets at Route 66. I hear the owner spent about US$250,000 on them. Okay, you will only get to see the male one. Rumour has it that the female toilet has a small band in the toilet.
