http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/06/12/headlines/headlines_30036641.php The AEC decided to have the assets frozen after gathering sufficient evidence to believe that Thaksin had committed malfeasance and became unusually wealthy, and after some Bt20 billion had already been withdrawn from the 21 accounts holding the Bt73 billion from the Shin Corp sale, Kaewsan said. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The missing 20 billion is more than enough to buy Manchester City.

His spokeman claims this is not true... Thaksin does not buy house in Hong Kong : Noppadon Exiled prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra did not buy any residence in Hong Kong, his spokesman Noppadon Patama said Wednesday. Noppadon denied a news report in Hong Kong media that Thaksin bought a luxurious apartment in Hong Kong. "Khun Thaksin has no plan to buy house or apartment in Hong Kong," he told reporters. Hong Kong-based the Standard newspaper reported on Wednesday that Thaksin has bought a US$27 million dollar luxury house in Hong Kong. The sale of the luxury townhouse on Hong Kong's prestigious Victoria Peak raised eyebrows earlier this year because the 210 million Hong Kong dollar price tag made it Asia's most expensive property per square foot. The high price surprised many because the 5,100 square foot (475 square metre) property is attached to other houses in the same development, making it less desirable than a detached property. The house boasts panoramic views over Hong Kong's famous harbour, its own swimming pool and a state-of-the-art security system. The identity of the buyer was not revealed at the time of the sale, with local media describing the new owner only as a businessman. But The Standard said a source close to the deal had identified the mystery purchaser as the former Thai premier and self-made billionaire. Thaksin has been in exile since the September 2006 coup, and has divided his time between London, where he has a home, and Asia. He was recently spotted shopping with his wife in Hong Kong. Thai authorities recently froze 1.5 billion dollars of his assets, although the order only affected banks in Thailand, and Thaksin's overseas assets are largely unknown. Thaksin's lawyer said recently that the deposed premier was thinking about returning to Thailand for the first time since the September 2006 coup to fight corruption charges against him. From National News Bureau... Can't arrest Thaksin without a warrant, but AEC may be working to have one issued... Royal Thai Police Commissioner General reports that police cannot arrest Mr. Thaksin if he returns The Interim Royal Thai Police Commissioner General indicates that authorities cannot arrest Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra due to lack of an arrest warrant. Royal Thai Police Interim Commissioner General Pol Gen Sereepisuth Taemeeyaves said that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra may return to Thailand to face charges levied by the Asset Examination Committee (AEC). Pol Gen Sereepisuth affirmed that police would provide protection to Mr. Thaksin and that there are currently no plans to arrest him due to lack of arrest warrants. The Asset Examination Committee is currently coordinating with court officials in issuing an arrest warrant. The Royal Thai Police Interim Commissioner General said that authorities will closely monitor Mr. Thaksin's movements if he returns. Pol Gen Sereepisuth expressed his confidence that demonstration situations are under control and will not intensify if Mr. Thaksin returns.
