I know it was just a status symbol for a majority of the people that had one but I can't recall..... were there any visa benefits for having one? Like, you didnt need one at all and could just hang out as long as you wanted if you had an elite card... just curious....because free golf and a limo ride from the airport doesnt add up to 25K US atl

As I understand it, the card came with a claim of "a lifetime visa" that came in the form of a 5yr visa that needed renewing, but nobody at the scheme had considered the renewal process or fee therefore it was NOT actually a certain that it would be possible, it turns out that it's not ! To be honest the main 2 reasons for the card were the ability to buy land (through another legal loophole) and the visa. The golf and airport extras were just bolt ons. I would be interested to know what happens to those that did buy land through the scheme (who holds the land in their name) and built their dream home on it, because surely the land is an asset of the scheme and the scheme went bust owing 1.4 Billion Baht ! Jeez, Thailand is going to need a bigger coffin at this rate, there's not a lot more room left for any more nails.

þ Taksin's twisted "buy your way into Thailand" scam almost as good as scamming the locals to buy shares in his soccer team by buying lottery tickets þ
