ATR72-500 turbo prop crashed in stormy weather ! inbound from Krabi.... pilot died with 7 others injured when the plane hit the old control tower....
Monsoon weather's a real bitch ! wind driven heavy rain that comes in isolated cells ! Sept probably worst month to fly in Thailand lookin at rainfall months.... dropped into Samui, Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok during hella wind shear and rain deluge... Bangkok Air pilots didnt even flinch or do go arounds... landed us ok safely in those turbo props.
Alaska is another fun place to fly...weather turns on you quick ! Cessna sea planes droppin in on 5-10 ft swells; hop skip and skim in to the docks... with a whew we made it afterward ! Arctic white outs a real weather nasty....your IFR snowblind till your wheels hit ground droppin in and down the slick runways at black of night !....
