"Supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) rallied in front of the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) on Monday to demand answers on cases involving privy councillor Surayud Chulanont and the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).
The rally began around noon.
The red-shirts want to know the progress being made on cases of alleged land encroachment on Khao Yai Thiang involving Gen Surayud, alleged land encroachment involving Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda in the Khao Soi Dao area and complaints involving the PAD.
Attorney-General Julasing Wasansing said the protesters would stay outside the building and police would be there to maintain peace and order. There was no cause for worry.
The UDD has the right to rally if the protest does not lead to any damage, he added.
Meanwhile, the government spokesman Panitan Wattanayakorn said that the government will deploy at least 20,000 extra security forces across the country ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on the seizure of the fortune of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
Mr Panithan said protests would be allowed, but violence would not be, in the event of a populist backlash if the court seizes the 76 billion baht of Shinwatra assets on Feb 26.
Thaksin loyalists are stepping up anti-government demonstrations ahead of the court verdict.
"Security will intensify before and after the ruling because the government does not think it will be over," he said.
More than 13,300 security forces will be deployed in pro-Thaksin provinces across the country, while at least 6,500 will be in place in Bangkok and the surrounding area, with up to 200 checkpoints planned in and around the metropolitan area.
The total number of extra police and soldiers on the streets could be as high as 35,000, Mr Panitan said.
"Extraordinary security laws will used if needed to prevent any violence," he added.
On Feb 26 the Supreme Court will decide whether all, some or none of the fortune of the former telecom tycoon -- frozen in the months after he was deposed in a coup in 2006 -- can be seized by authorities.

so to be clear, the government has set up 38 regional security centres, with 35,000 personell to tackle a few 100 minority people that don't think the same as all other Thais ??
