As a long time visitor to BKK..can somebody answer this pregunta?  If I am actually coming to visit BKK for a business trip is it prudent to mark business on the question that you give to passport control? Or if one does this must one document anything else or provide  a work permit? Given the world today does that invite addl. questioning or does everybody simply check "tourist".?  Curious?

First, since this is a legal question, you would be CRAZY to accept ANY answer here at face value.

Second, you don't state how long you will be staying or what types of business activities you will engage in.

Now, assuming your stay will be less than 30 days, and you won't be OBVIOUSLY employed (working behind the counter at McDonalds, or operating a somtam cart, in a PRACTICAL sense, you would seem to be in very little jeapordy checking the TOURIST box on the card.

Conversely, if you get a serious person from Thai Immigration at the airport, and you have checked the BUSINESS box, you may get asked about your non-immigrant visa status, i.e., how come you don't HAVE one, etc.

So, take YOUR pick.

Great points. I've checked both at differnt times and have found that it really does not matter. Unless you keep coming back to thailand every month for 3 weeks, then maybe checking tourist would not make sense.

I would say if it's for true business purposes then check that box. Why lie??

But ... that's just my opinion.

I also come to Thailand often for business and never have a problem if I check Business or Business and Tourist.  In fact, the Cusoms/Immigration in the US were much more interested in what I did there.
