I've looked, and could not find a place where newbies can sow their wild oats with an introductory message to the brotherhood, so, here goes. [if needed, move this to a more appropriate place]
Yep, I've been a frequent visitor to BangkokTonight.com and the forum since February of this year, in avid preparation of my (first) trip to the LOS schedule during mid April (right during Songkran, as I found out). Checked out field reports, learnt about 'barfines', but most importantly, read up on all of the scams and shenanigans to look out for. That came in handy later...
My friend talked me into the wonders of Thailand, as she returnbed from her trip last year, evangelizing the wonders and amazement to me - ebnding in me joking that the next time she went, I'd go with her. Come january I got her phone call, and I was booked for April 12th-21st.
I'm 39 (I guess a spring chicken compared to many  , originally from Austria, I live and work in Los Angeles as a Macintosh consultant in the entertainment industry. Having a great time doing that, as well.
I've been in a LOT of different places in the world (due to my Dad being a pilot, and my family REALLY taking advantage of the comp'd flights), but I have never been to SEA - so when the opportunity to go to Thailand came along, I figured this would be a good way to get started in the SEA theatre, and I could go visit other countries in that region next.
Of course, my other travelling companion, a veteran of 9 prior Thailand trips, summarized Thailand (or rasther, BKK) to me as "..a pure shot o' heroin..." - I brushed that off as exageration, as I have so many other field reports I read.
Well, they weren't wrong - if anything, they were understating the obvious.
So, here I am now, an addict amongst addicts!
Now, I just gotta kick my ass in gear and finally write up my trip report from my trip.

Yes, I’m also a newbie - to this board that is. After getting grilled and falsely accused of being a spammer and imposter, this just following my second post! I must say I feel a little vindicated to learn that one of my major know-it-all attackers (you) is a just a pathetic newbie who apparently has never even visited Thailand. What a joke you guys seem to be.
I definitely got off on the wrong foot posting here, and just maybe it’s too bad, as I’ve made over a dozen trips to LOS during the past seven years. On these visits I’ve known many, many girls and have experienced a multitude of interesting encounters. Not all good, but it’s a learning experience isn’t it.
I must say, I’ve never started posting on a board before where I encountered such an array of complete assholes and flamers just itching to give someone - anyone both barrels. That’s my first impression anyway; I’ll hang around a little longer just in case I’m wrong and the welcome I got was a fluke. I suppose there is an outside chance that maybe, just maybe a few decent people post here.
So, far, though much of what I see adds up to a bunch of clueless newbies authoritatively posting about things they have never even experienced, only read about. Oh, brother…

Sometimes when one makes a mistake it is better not to refer to it so that others can be polite and tacitly agree to let it go. But if one keeps bringing it up oneself then others find it hard to maintain the fiction that one is not a complete buffoon. If you'd like to meet some of the clueless newbies the next time you make it to BKK I'm sure schedules can be cleared. Perhaps you can show us some new places and introduce us to some undiscovered opportunities.
Maybe you can invite Jen along.
