Sup':

** These comments and observations are not directed at any one member.**

Iíve been posting in this forum for over a year and there seems to be a dangerous and destructive pattern evolving.

The posts/information has gone from candid, colorful, lighthearted, and informative and is migrating towards, aggressive, colorful language, demeaning, nitpicking, with little substance.

A good friend had this comment, which I thought fit:
"If I wanted other people's morals shoved down my throat I would never have joined the forum! ÝIf I wanted to be surrounded by people who agree with my every view, I'd look into cloning!"

We donít have to agree, but we should be able to discuss and post our disagreements and information in constructive manner. Iím being realistic here and Iím not advocating for a G-rated material, sensored information, a mutual admiration society or group hugsÖ but something is far far wrong when we go out of our way to belittle people, purely because they donít agree with us on a given issue.

I think itís terrible when some members will comment on grammar, or pull out their dictionary about a word used, instead of focusing on the topic. Or worse yet, when members become hostile towards one another and start threads about that member.

If you don't like what a member has posted, then post your response and move on. Letís please try to keep the criticisms to constructive on topic ones as well.

A year ago thread like "I hurt Her" would never had been brought up, nor did BK have to post any message/rules about what is and what is not allowed to be posted in the field reports. Soon the posts are going to be very general, with no personality and color, as well as no opinions, which I would hate to see. The more rules in place, then the more work for BK, not to mention the restrictions placed on the members. Let's please try to use common sence when sharing information posted to non-members

I realize that with size and growth comes with it the growing pains. Well ÖÖ I for one would like to see the form get back to the informative post forum it was and still is without all the egos.

ALL of us have to decide the fate of this forum. BK can moderate it and house the data/servers, but itís the membership that shapes the content and sentiment. I donít think we really want BK to set more rule and guidelines for posting. What does it say about the direction where in the post words like ě this is not meant to flame anyone, or donít flame me, ect are written. It is sad that those types of sentences are included in our posts in the first place.

The way I see it is BK has been nice enough to set up a cool place to meet people, post information, and get information about Thailand. Let's ALL .... including myself .... try to clean up our act so that we can ensure that this forum heads back into a healthy direction before it's too late.

Have a good one.

Ý Ý Ý ÝABC;
Ý Sup bro.? You are certainly right about the way it's going. You can't comment on something written, or disagree any more without being told your an idiot. That certainly is a shame and, makes me feel as if i'm back in kindergarten. Of course when those very things happen and, I get my feathers ruffled, I too revert back to my "shut up and stomp ass days". So i'm no exception to what you are saying here bro. To much "i'm smarter than you are" sentiment these days on the forum. I would bet BK looks at it and, says "what the f_ck happend" Ýsometimes. I too hope we can get it together, and, bring it back into perspective. Well, at any rate, we should see what caliber of members we have, if the members can all come together on this issue and, bring the forum back to the way it was. I for one hope it happens bro.

ABC:

Your post is one of the very best I've ever read on this forum; both in form and content. Like Bigin, I don't exclude myself from those who should take heed and consider my own behavior.

Outstanding. I sincerely hope it has some effect. In any case, much respect Bro.

I agree, good post.  A lot of the newer posters could do themselves a favor by reading in detail some of the older posts which would answer most of the basic questions.  That might also help on people jumping on their post.  But I agree with your post usually make a post or two if I disagree with someone and then move on.

I would sure like to see more posts about trip reports - and not just nightlife, but diving, beaches, golf, shopping deals, sight-seeing, etc.  But then again many might not think that is avaiable in Thailand.

Good post and I will try to keep reccomending places where I get good service at a resonable price and if it includes Annie's MP, Kangaroo Bar and the beergarden, Soi 7. So be it.  I need some Thai BG poone tang and in 2 day I'll be in pussy heaven

ABC,

Thanks for an outstanding post. It certainly reflects my thoughts on the subject and judging from the response of some of the members, i think it has got other members thinking too.

I am sure these members are genuine in their responses and I hope that we will see the forum veer away from the direction in which it has been heading these past few months.

Admittedly there will be some members who will continue to be negative in their aproach. These are members who purposely incite to get a reaction and create a controversy. They do not belong here.

On the other hand there are members who react to such incitement. My request to these members: "Don't." Not only will this defeat the purpose of the inciters, it will also isolate them and make it easier for BK to take action.

In ending I would just like to say that this forum has helped a lot of us, newbies as well as those like me who had been to LOS several times but had not even scratched the surface of the sanuk possible there.

Yes, BK has done a tremendous job putting up this forum. Our only contribution is the posts we make. Let us make these positive and constructive and help him.

Kris

ABC,
Yep, the old gang thoughts and feelings are in your post. Hope it really could have some effect in the members who sometimes use this forum as a killing field....

....one recent example of spoiling a thread was the one going on in "I didn't hurt someone"....what a pitty.

ABC has finally bought a bit of sense to the forum.
the forum has gone downhill in the past few months(and i'm not blaming any single person).
a lot of fighting and flaming amongst members and i have been saddened by it all.

this used to be a great place to post and have fun,but not lately.
the past few days/weeks i've posted silly posts, the forum has lost a lot of interest for me.
and it seems i am not the only one.

i wish it could get back to how it was.
i have made ememies on the forum, but i have no problems with that.
but why do people want to abuse others?.

This is all very well, but I notice that in the course of your post you also can't help directly addressing the issue that dare not speak its name. Don't blame you for this, it's a bone many of us can't stop nagging at...

I suspect this issue has actually been latent for a long time, and that Tyler's post merely forced it out into the open. Ergo, bit of a volcano effect. There is strong and genuine disagreement here, and feelings run high on both sides. So the inevitable happens.

Of course there should be no place for personal attacks. But as in any public dispute, they will occur. Some of us are better than others at coping with the intolerable stupidity and wickedness of people who disagree with us.

I've been provoked into getting bitchy myself. Shouldn't have. Regret it. We should all cut it out. And perhaps remember that disputants who actually persuade people are the ones who keep outwardly cool, however much they may be boiling inside.

Have things really taken a sudden turn for the worse? Seems to me as a long-term lurker that the shit has hit the fan often enough before. Often over nothing more than a meaningless personality clash. This time the fuss has actually been about something, so perhaps that's progress of sorts...

Anyway, good manners cost nothing in any circumstances.
