IK: How old are you and do you have custody of your child? Over age 50, go for retirement visa. Under age 50, go for Non-Immigrant "O" with supporting child as reason.

Are you married to the mother, legally ?? you can get a support of a thai wife and child visa. You need the documentation and I think from memory it was around 200k baht in the bank, but not entirely sure on that amount as it was sometime ago I found out about it and also before the changes of last year. The most important thing is having the documents of marriage and birth certificates of the child with your name on it. If not married, you can still possibly get the non immigrant O visa because of the child. You have to apply for this outside Los, so apply in UK. You will need the birth certificate in english translation as well as the original or a certified copy of the original. Los does not do certified copies as such, you have to get that done at your UK embassy for a fee here in Los. So, if you have problems with the mother, seperated etc, then this could be a problem obviously, if all is fine, get her to go in and get it for you and send to you. If you are all still together, it will be easier. As for your business, didn't you get a work permit with your company, if not, you might want to pursue that avenue if the family way proves to hard. With the Imm O visa, you can leave when ever you want, it is for 12 months, but the last visa renewal you get another 3 months, so technically it is 15 months. You also have to leave every 3 months for a visa run. Which can be as easy as getting on a bus at Sukhumvit for the day and 2000b, or as hard as 2 weeks via Chiang Mai and Indonesia for a shitload more. 400k is now the amount I have been advised by a wise friend. This is what you have to show in the bank in Los for the marriage visa deal.

to clarify things a bit i'm under 50, need to raise the capital in the company to 2 million baht now to get work permit but the company does'nt do anything so not sure if this is a problem, not married to the mother yet, but think the non imagrant O visa to support the child sounds best. Mr thaksin seem's to be making things harder by the day.

In case time nor money is an issue : why bother to pump money in a TH bank or business in order to get some kind of visa ? Why not travel abroad every 30 days to enjoy some non TH exotic flora and especially fauna ? Why ty up capital in TH for something u can get for free : a tourist visa on arrival. U keep all ur options open and can always reconsider ur position in case TH hardens immigration rules. Did I miss something ? Be so kind to let me know.

The visa run every 30 days may be OK in the short term (or the long term, I have no personal experience) but people who do it tell me it gets pretty tedious after a couple of years. And expensive/tiresome, depending how you do it. I've also read a couple of stories about travellers with tens of 30 day tourist visa stamps in their passports being refused re-entry to Thailand. And remember, if coming from the UK you can get a 60 day tourist visa and have it extended for 30 days in Bangkok. That's the first three months taken care of anyway.

I have four series of each about ten to twelf consecutive 30day visa on arrival (VOA) from nearly all TH borderposts land and air. The four series are interlaced each with about 20 to 30 days 'real vacation' outside TH. The other ones being two or three day trips abroad. With all of these border crossings into TH no hassle no questions asked except "do u have a valid visa sir ?" my answer "no sir can u give me one to visit ur beautiful country for 30 more days ? " result About these so called cases "refusal to provide re-entry with VOA". Yeah sure life is tiring, costs money, one cums a bit and in the end gets zapped Yeah sure nobody can proove a white crow does not exist unless showing all black crows I strongly suspect those reported alledged VOA re-entry problem cases are : or notorious long-time recidivist overstayers or had been caught working without permit or they really look like or are trash or they take the immi officer on the spot for shit. Did I miss any ? Let it moreover be clear that refusal of entry of those is perfectly legal. Briefly (under similar practical circumstances as outlined above) the IMHO optimal visa for some other SEA-countries for LT stay without working : MY 90 day VOA + re-entry VOA runs no probs. PH 21 day VOA + hassle free extensions thru local travel agent for stay up to 6 months + re-entry VOA runs plus dito extensions no probs. KH 1 year multiple entry business visa (implies u have permit to work just in case) around 3OO USD hasslefree thru local travelagent. For other than visa considerations on alternatives for TH see appropriate recent thread on this board. TH might in the eyes of many beholders have some kind of magic their neighbours don't have. LOS better not overplay her hand with too greedy eyes or this beholder will call the cards and bail out without losses moving to another pokerjoint in the area
