I, for one, don't give a rat's ass WHAT the rules are, as long as they are clearly explained and evenly enforced. BK's desire to keep this forum about Bangkok and Thailand is great. ÝWhile I assume the recent topic "Who would you like to ban", was a response to some whining by someone who doesn't get it (PS), I, too, support a kinder, gentler and more informative format. ÝIt certainly is fun to expose the murky predilictions of some of the more clueless newbies (PS), in interesting and colorful language, but I will bow to the masses, and master, and stifle my baser impulses for the greater good. So, kudos to BK. ÝLet's see how evenly things get applied, and how much better the result is. No squawking from me. haam sup wishing all a pleasant day

BK, the new rules are a jolly good idea. These chaps who just use this forum to vent their personal Ývendettas and spleen are a bore to the rest of us. ÝAnd ÝI am please to note that the distinguished and very well read proprietor of a certain s&m establishment has already taken cognizance of your new rules. What most of us are interested in is hearing about the incredible world of Thailand's unique Ýnightlife in all its wonderous glory and pathos.

"The members have their own views on this matter. I have mine and other members have theirs like this member sharing his views here: SPECIALTY BARS: New Forum Rules SUCK" I saw it and responded with THIS topic. Sauron had a lot of good stuff to impart, and it will be missed (at least by me). ÝBK's rules impose a certain amount of prior restraint, and I can see that it doesn't sit well with the man. ÝHe is his own man, and can respond in any way he sees fit. Sauron was right about one thing for sure: Ýthis forum NEEDS people who know what they are talking about, or at least know enough to keep quiet or ask polite questions when they DON'T know anything (PS). ÝMrJoe and a couple others fit this bill, and the chatter here drove them off. Arcadius, Padawan, and a host of others DO know a lot, and are much more tolerant and helpful than I am, and one hopes that the changes will encourage them, and those like them, to participate. Different strokes. haam sup (the fact that I omitted so many knowlegable people from the above doesn't imply anything, except my diminished recall - hs)

I suspect there are a lot of experts out there too. And if the environment is more acceptable rather than hostile, you will find more contributions from the quieter members who have refrained from posting in the past because of the bullies here. Anyway, let us see.

MrJoe's absence from the board has nothing to do with rules or the forum at all. I don't even think he knows new rules exist, so sauron was incorrect in that statement. This is resignation number X in a series of how many?

Let's get some things straight . In any society ( i.e. a group of people ) there have to be Rules for Interaction - whether they be written or unwritten , whether they be minimal or extensive - and these rules are usually drawn up for the benefit of the large majority . So what is wrong in having a few rules for this Forum and from what I have seen , the rules are minimal . Sure there will be some who will object & some who will throw a tantrum but if the great majority are OK by it and willing to give it a try then I guess they agree and that's what Democracy is about - OR have we forgotten ? It is really amusing to see that the same member who wanted BK to summarily ban another member when there were no rules under which this could be done , now objects to these rules which only formulate what this member wanted . This same member has threatened to resign and BK has very cleverly accepted this by Closing the relevant thread - probably because this same member made a big issue about resigning some time ago and then came back with more enthusiasm than ever . Although I would not want a Forum crippled by Rules - I support the current rules because they are minimal , because they regulate the really important things and because they are for the good of the large majority of members . I'm with you all the way BK.

I like these rules, if it means reading through less petty bullshit in order to get the info out of threads. "This forum is about entertainment, nightlife and living in Bangkok. Please keep your discussions around them and do not deviate from them. Topics not related to Thailand or Bangkok, will not be accepted anymore. The only exception is the Field Reports outside Thailand, discussion in that area will be restricted to nightlife and entertainment discussion only. Other unrelated topics, are not welcome here, go check out other forums on the internet that deal with it." This works. But a suggestion if that's okay. How about one AND ONLY ONE standing thread somewhere with links to other forums for talking about p4p outside of Thailand. Sites like WSGforum, the KL and RP boards, all the rest. A resource for regular users and future newbies so they're not even tempted to open out-of-country topics here. Needs rules like "must link to front page of forum", but I leave that to the masters. What think?

AGREED!!! ÝI would modified it to say "..... and evenly enforced or unenforced." At the end, he who pays for the party and the band, can ask the band what songs to play. The rest, can request, wait Ýand ... "hope" that their "requests" are considered. Then depending on how much people like the party and band, they either stay or leave. If nobody comes to the party, then maybe time to loosen up and include some of the tunes that those guys who left wanted. But if the party is getting too many people, the host can then get even more selective and start asking for a dress code, and so on. What will be interesting to see in the very near future is the testing of the rules with borderline cases. Those that set precedent for what is to come. It will be interesting to see those cases. I suggest that when saction is about to be applied, the rule-breaking post is left "frozen" for a while for all to see. Thus helping all see an example of the application criteria effectively being enforced.
