BK - is it possible to limit the right to create a new topic thread until someone posts, like, more than 20 (or whatever) times? This will help people how to learn search and index to find an existing appropriate thread to post in and make it a little more time consuming and obvious to when there is a lesibian at work

Well, I for one second that - it would certainly limit the nuisance caused by B1 impersonators. In the space of 6 months and 600 posts I've found it necessary to start only one new thread. No matter what newbies want to say, or questions they want to ask, it's very difficult to believe that there isn't at least one existing thread out there they can revive for the purpose. If thread-creation priviliges didn't kick in before (say) beer bar pro status, this should allow ample space to judge whether any given newbie is genuine or just another troll.

As a somewhat experienced BKK/LOS'er, although a newbie to this forum, I have created several threads because I am sharing information... mostly field reports. I am limited by my newbie status on the number of threads that I may start to about one a day... really less than that for some reason. I agree with the limitation though. I do wonder if someone has 600 posts, why that person has only started one thread. No new info to share???

I agree with you. Actually, right now, the system allows the user to create only 1 thread per day. This was meant to prevent spamming threads. However, if I were to restrict the user from creating a thread, then newbies would not be able to post their field reports. And if I only allowed newbies to post there, there will always be a newbie who will post questions there instead of writing their field reports.

Good point about FRs Worth thinking about more, but maybe we give up the FRs from newbies to get a little bit more balanced on both sides. i.e. are we willing to surrender the benefit of newbie FRs to gain the benefit of less idiotic threads? Is there a quick way to see how many FRs are posted by newbies?

In general, it is not a question of new information or opinion, but of new subject matter. There is simply no need for new threads on Patpong v NEP, shaved v hairy pussies and all the other topics which recur so regularly. The result is that info and discussion on these subjects gets scattered all over the shop, to the inconvenience of people (esp other & future newbies) who might want to mug up on what has already been said. FRs are the obvious exception, of course. One advantage of allowing newbies to continue starting threads here is that the trolls (few of whom have ever been anywhere near LOS) should quickly reveal themselves.

Anyway, this is an interesting problem. I think it is definitely possible for me to implement this thread creation lock for newbies, and only allow postings in Field reports only. Perhaps, we should allow only moderators to start threads, that will definitely reduce the number of idiotic threads right away, since there are no moderators!

What about this: Newbie starter of a thread can not post back in his own thread ..... until the thread gets to the 3 or 4 page or until some time passes since thread was started -say at least 1 week. Something like that, so that if his intention was to just generate attention, he can not keep going replying to each post made in the thread. By the time he can go back to posting, either the other members have shown no interest or if they did and posted... well by then the thread has its own genuine life.

JackRabbit present... Agreed about the amount / content ratio of new threads is low. It is a good idea to allow only BK or other qualified person to start threads. Only minus is that BK is already doing a lot of work with this forum and that starting of new the new threads would be another stone. I say cut off virgins from starting threads. It is difficult to check which one FR's are started by virgin because if his/hers postnumber has risen to next level , also the starting posts shows this new level. Things should not be granted but earned. JR

Do you really think that members who post 16 times a day, sometimes in succession of thier own posts on the same thread usually contributing nothing but flames etc... are any more "qualified" than someone, who is new to the forum but may have some interesting new subject?????
