Quote: from magnum on 8:21 am on Dec. 30, 2011 ... popeye... here just shy of 12 years now, I believe that to be happy in Thailand, you have to have made your money before moving here... Thailand is a good place to live, but not a good place to make money... I know but few who succeed im making any kind of money here... living here on limited budget makes for a pretty crappy lifestyle.
Some good advice from magnum Quote: from thailife on 9:51 am on Dec. 30, 2011 If you are specialized and can find a great job, God bless you. But if you are not, it is far better to just go to LOS every chance ytou get and make your money in your home country.
Some very good advice from The World of Golden Showers. There are many potential fast food mangers and laborers that will do drywall, tile and and carpeting for 300 baht a day in Thailand. Then there are illegals from Burma and Laos that have the same skill sets and who knows what they are getting paid.

It depends on what you do and how motivated you are. I have 20 friends here that are school teachers and they earn between 25-150k a month in various cities. I also have mates in construction, sales, management, logistics, recruitment, IT and a whole host of specialized fields. If you come here with the intention of getting on the piss and looking for a job in your spare time then you will be lucky to succeed. If you have a plan and go out every day then you can secure a job, again depending on your background.

I wholehearted agree with Kenneth. Your level of happiness doesn't depend on the amount of money you have to spend but on your ability to adjust your lifestyle. I've been a teacher for years and I made it through both happy and difficult times. And one teacher said he would be even happier with a little bit of more money but rather be unhappy in Thailand than in England.

The best thing is being able to do what you love. So long ad you're doing that it doesn't really matter too much how much you're making.

I really think it depends on the style of living you are used to and what you expect. I for one live at a certain standard and I can't adjust to living into a Thai style one room apartment. Hey, that's just me. Some people are ok with that. I am not. Plus we also need to mention that those of us (including me) that would fall off the rails on booze in Thailand need not move there as there would only be trouble with the bottle. I choose to visit, spend freely and leave. It keeps it fresh, new and I can go home and regain my sanity.
