Thanks, folks, these are very interesting - and several times, amusing -- replies. A few clarifications are in order.

Haam Sup, I did not mean that my mood was being "spoilt" by reading things which I didn't want to read. Far from it. What I said was, my mood gets totally different from what it was when I entered the forum. I enter this forum like I am sauntering into a pub of pleasure - as JJSushi aptly described it. Then, with the political discussions that I enter, I get into a different mood, by which I mean I become more serious, more cerebral, more introspective, more many things else, but certainly NOT offended, or upset, or "train-wrecked" or anything of that sort. I love these political discussions with people who are well-informed, who can debate well, who are unbiased and sharp and don't hesitate to "punch" when required. My fault, I should have made myself clearer. But, I loved reading your riposte, and admire your observation that  "anything remotely perceived as disruptive sends everybody into a nervous state, like a troupe of tree-dwelling monkeys sensing danger."  Your imagery is remarkable !

BoomARang, you are an ace shooter aren't you, you hit the bull's eye with your observation that all the discussions (on a political discussion board) are flat and one dimensional, whereas on this Forum it is very interesting to correlate how people post on the political issues with how they post on other issues totally unrelated to politics. You are right, it certainly yields a more "three dimensional view" of what is being posted. I agree with you on that and I owe you a big thanks for putting that wonderfully in perspective.

Undeniably, like Arcadius pointed out, it is fun to "chew the fat" with the interesting people you meet here on the big issues of the day. Of course, I also love it when I get my own head chewed off unanimously !! The best thing about this Forum is the replies are so profound even when they are humorous. Thinking further about my original post, I realize that something inextricably linked to P4P too can get people into a serious, introspective mood, and actually lead to highly charged discussions (need we recall those threads?!).

Sup':
As long as the policitical topics stay in the news thread area, I think it's fine. If members don't want to read or write about, then they can ignore it. It would become a nuisense if it started to seep into other threads or topics not realated to the current event.

As example. Some one is talking about MP's in China and in the thread someone posts, What about communism in China in the same thread. To me, that would be inappropriate place for the comment.

Either way, I think that if you don't want to read it, then don't and move on. No matter where or what the subject is.

Agree with ABC. Political isuses if someone is interested should focus on the NEWS thread. If someone wanna read such kind of stuff that's fine to me as well.

I personally read newspapers and watch CNN and never was interested to read Bkktonite-threads with political points of view (even flames) from people I've never met.
