Here's a fun suggestion:
Just as regular users don't see banned users and their posts anymore, how about making it so that banned users only see each other's posts, but really, no longer able to see regular user's posts.
In other words, after a while, banned users only end up talking and seeing each other, and effectively live in their own area of the system - no longer being an eyesore and bother for regular users, but it may take some of them a while to figure out what happened

A banned member cannot access the site at all. Let me see... that means, he can't see the avatars and silly signatures anymore.
Harry, actually, I was thinking of implementing something similar for the "ignored" member, where only he can read his own posts, whilst no one else can.

GC, why have you not ignored him yet? Just go to your profile settings, type in his userid in the Ignore field, and you don't have to read his posts anymore.
