I'd like to use that technique, but can't figure out how to make it work without seeming rude.
On my last trip I visited Baccara for the first time and had a seat upstairs where I was the only customer. There were four young girls dancing butt naked, they were really working hard and it was hot up there. I bought all four of them a drink and after their set Ęthey dutifully came over and sat with me (which I didn't fully expect). I tried to make it clear that there was no need for them to be hovering around me (all I needed was one, okay maybe two). I couldn't quite communicate that, however. I really wish the other two could have wandered off to find someone else who was going to BF them, I felt guilty keeping them and not putting them to good use.
My Thai is limited. I can say "go away", I can say "sit with me". But I can't say "I hope you enjoy the drink which I bought in appreciation of your hard work. But you don't need to stay with me and if you want to look for other customers I completely understand." I probably ended up saying something unintelligible and rude like: "Mai dtong yu duai. Yahk bai, bai."

I stand to be corrected, but in my experience if ever I have bought a drink for a girl in a gogo, without exception she has appeared when her dance session finished. So I have always assumed it to be part of the "shall we get together" ritual
I always used the "buy drink " routine if I was having any difficulty in catching her eye.
Exception to this would be if you bought a drink for a girl who came and plagued you to buy her a drink.

You're right. It is pretty much mandatory for the girl to come over to you after the set (if she accepts the drink). Just as with a BF, I think you're usually justified to complain to the manager if she doesn't come over (or if she just takes a sip and leaves).
In this case, I thought it was more like ringing the bell, so I didn't expect all the girls to come over and hang out. I did expect them to come say "Chok Dee!" clink "Khop khun ka" and then I would ask one or two to sit down. As it was they all milled about me hesitantly which was just a little awkward. It wasn't a problem and as usual I overanalyze everything and just Ętry to optimize my enjoyment (and theirs).
(Actually, in another bar on the same trip I did the same thing for another set of girls, and they didn't really come over, which is exactly what I wanted actually.)

I spent 7 days in Bangkok for the sole purpose of a relaxing holiday away from the monotony of work and found Tilac Bar to rather decent. While the selection of girls isn't as up to par as a Nana Plaza Bar, the few stunners that were there were worth the visit.
My first visit to Tilac bar and I was assisted by one of the Mammasan's "PEK" who asked a little about me and what I was looking for. I told her I was looking for a younger girl (18-23). She kept bringing me her youngest and prettiest girls until I found the one I wanted for the night. BF was only 500 baht and the LT Price was reasonable (about 2500 baht)
I won't get into specifics on the girls name, but her services were definitely incredible, so much in fact that I found myself there for the next 4 nights looking for her. (Ended up with her 3 of the four nights.)
The only thing I didn't like was that on one of the days I was told that she wasn't coming into work and so they hooked me up with a stunner by the name of "NEW" Smoking hot body, young, petite with a few piercings one most notably under her bottom lip. Very flirtatious and affectionate girl! I found myself very excited at the prospect of spending an evening with her. The only problem is that after buying her 2 drinks (at about 95 baht each) She got a phone call and told me that she can't go with me for the night. When asked "why" she told me that she did not know that I was another girl's customer before and that my girl was on her way in, she was just running late. I was crushed... =- (
It all worked out for the better though because my second night with my original girl was even better than the first... she was very accommodating and ended up buying me drinks and food that night.
If anyone is curious about Tilac Bar give it a gander and look for a girl named "NEW" you shouldn't be disappointed! Cheers!
