sup gentelemen has any of you been to the full moon party on that island off of koh samui?
im going to thailand for 16 nights and am wondering if it would be a waste of time going to the party?

Of course the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan is legendary. Normally most visitors stay on Koh Samui and then go to Koh Phangan for the night - lots of boats to take you and bring you back.
The problem at the moment is the crack down on drugs (this party is very druggy) and 2.00am closing. You run the risk of going there and then being sent home at 2am.
If you want a view.... It is worth going to if you are planning to stay in Koh Samui but, if not, I dont think it is worth a special trip (!!). If you go to Samui try the Green Mango - one of the best clubs in Thailand.

Yes I have attended full moon party last year and it was a blast. Just don't get so drunk that you don't know if you are talking to LB or real girl. Thank God I had my friends with me lol

Went last year and wasnt impressed by the 'overhyped' full moon party. This used to be popular due to the hedonistic nature of the event but now that has declined its not as much fun and you may as well stay on samui. Although saying this the beaches on Koh Phangan are amazing and for that 'tropical beach' experience and ultra cheap accomodation, outclasses Koh Samui ten fold.
Incidentally when I visited samui (May, 2003) green mango wasnt kicking most nights and was emptying out at around 1:30-2am. What nightlife there was in chaweng seemed to be happening in the bar to the left and right of the entrance of green mango where the drinks were half the price....further proving my point that people often go to drink where the drinks prices are reasonable.

Been there, done that. Not again.
Simplest description: A fraternity boy's dream frat party.
Wall-to-wall screaming drunk backpackers in the few beach bars, or bumping into each other wandering around the beach outside, trying to see who can shout the loudest and get the drunkest - or highest.
A bunch of totally different scattered sound systems blaring incomprehensible conflicting sounds up and down the beach.
High boy to girl ratio. Chaos - without any redeeming social value - unless that works for you.
A pretty moon however.
