Hi Nokna I have a question for you, but other bro's may wish to share as well You are very free with you information on this board and give us detailed accounts of your activites You also go one step further and share you Photo of yourself and release (I presume) your correct full name to many I can see where you are comfortable sharing here amoungst us But Is there anyone back home that you hide your activites from and if you share your experances to others you meet everyday do you let then know the full extent of your activites with the blow by blow account that you share with us. I am not for one minute saying that you should be ashamed of what you do but do you keep it from some people to avoide getting into the "you are a bad person" discussion Anyone else have any thoughts on this one Cheers JJ

I guess some guys are happy to provide such info in a public forum - many not. With so many weirdos out there, the internet may not be the safest place to reveal all. As far as mates are concerned and what we get up to on our trips, in Hong Kong we've long had a system known as "Kai Tak rules" (after the name of the old airport in the centre of town). Basically, whatever happened after you checked in and went through immigration was never to be discussed with anyone else. It worked!

GW; In the Army, I was in a unit which was based in Savannah, GA. (US); but we spent most of the time elsewhere, training. We had "Savannah Rules" for guys who had wives or GFs back at base. Re the topic; As for me, unless it's in reference to a topic I really want to talk about or a really great story (and sometimes even then); I usually prefer to avoid describing my adventures except in pretty general terms. But that's just a personal deal and in a way I kind of admire guys who do it; At least they are A)Being open about who they are B) Often entertaining everyone and C) Occasionally passing on some knowledge or a good reminder*. *Reminds me of the joke "Did you ever think that maybe the purpose of your existence is just to serve as an example to others?"

Bigin's answer reminded me that I didn't answer the other part of JJ's question: After my first period here, I went back to the US but very quickly realized that no one would ever even begin to understand what I had expeienced and even if I could explain it, they simply wouldn't believe me. (To be fair I did have an amazing first time and it was pretty unbelievable). But actually, I'm not sure if ever planned to tell anyone. I think I vaguely remember, after the first couple days here, thinking to myself something like, "I can never tell anybody about this shit. This is just too much."

Re: "Hong Kong Rules"; Maybe CJ or someone can help me with this trivia but didn't the military and dips have "Bangkok Rules" back in the day?

Sure. But I wasn't encumbered with spouse in those days. Now I use "Bangkok Rules" as in the great scene from ESCAPE FROM L.A. Snake Pliskin is surrounded by four gunmen in post-apocalyptic L.A. He has a machine pistol in his hand; all of them are also thrown down on him. He proposes to break the Mexican standoff, by settling the confrontation under Bangkok Rules. There's a tin can at his feet. He says, let's all holster our guns, I'll toss this can up in the air, and when it hits the ground we all draw and fire OK? They all agree. He tosses the can, his opponents all look up at it, Plisking draws and hoses them all down. He then walks over to the twitching bodies and looks down. "Bangkok Rules," sayeth Pliskin. "No rules." I about fell out of my chair...

Yeah, I remember that scene. Every once in a while a reference to Bangkok or LOS will pop up in a Hollywood film. That was one of the best ones I suppose. (Though Escape from NY was much better movie IMO). Talk about off thread. Sorry JJ.
